IRAQI HOSPITALS ATTACKED AND DAMAGED BY US FORCES
Dahr Jamail’s Iraq Dispatches
An urgent humanitarian crisis is unfolding in occupied west Iraq. The
Doctors for Iraq Society is calling on you to act NOW. US occupation
soldiers have conducted simultaneous military operations in cities across
the west of Iraq. Between May- June 2005, the heaviest of these attacks
took place in the cities of Haditha and Al-Qa’im. These cities and
surrounding villages are home to an estimated 300,000 people. Eyewitness
and medical p! ersonnel in the area have described how US soldiers
prevented food and medication reaching Haditha and Al-Qa’im and targeted
the cities two main hospitals, medical staff and ambulances...

Iraqi Resistance Issues Terms of Surrender (for Bush)
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
In response to Bush and the Tweedle Dee-Dummers in Washington, who believe
all it will take is a bit of backbone to defeat the “terrorists” in Iraq
(who will invade New York if they are not stopped in Iraq), and Rumsfeld’s
admission the U.S. talked with the resistance, the Mujahideen Central
Command has released a communique. First, the resistance claims there are
no negotiations, stating “there is no such word ‘negotiatio! n’ in our
political agenda” (in other words, Rummy may have made the whole thing up,
not surprising considering the litany of habitual lies pedaled by the
Bushcons), and second the resistance will keep on resisting, regardless of
the corporate media spin (an increasingly desperate spin due to the
stubborn fact the resistance is not going away, as Bush and crew promised
after the Iraqi “elections” staged earlier this year)...

What’s wrong with this picture? Reports death-squad activity one day;
killed by a US sniper the next
Stan Goff & Muhammad Abu Nasr
Months after the stories began to surface in uncensored press, now American
Knight Ridder newspaper has reported that so-called Iraqi security forces
have been torturing and killing Iraqi Sunnis. A story by Tom Lasseter and
Yasser Salihee written for Knight Ridder was published on Monday 27 June
2005 and reported that “days after Iraq’s new Shi‘i-led [puppet] government
was an! nounced on April 28, the bodies of Sunni Muslim men began turning
up at the capital’s central morgue after the men had been detained by
people wearing Iraqi police uniforms” (...) Yasser Salihee, 30, was killed
while driving alone in Baghdad on June 24, his day off. A single bullet
pierced his windshield and struck him in the head. It appeared that a U.S.
sniper shot him.” ...

Memo to Iraq War
This is the First Day of the Rest of Your Death
NORMAN SOLOMON, CounterPunch
On the propaganda front, it's been another tough week for Washington's war
makers. But for them, where there's hope there's death. Let's address the
Iraq war directly: It's too soon to know whether the Bush administration's
new PR offensive will do anything for you in terms of public opinion. But
rest assured that the U.S. military effort in Iraq won't be curtailed
anytime soon. Despite the downward trend of pu! blic backing for the war --
and in spite of the mass media's inadequate yet significant widening of
debate in recent weeks -- a combination of factors is in place to sustain
your deadly momentum...

Iraq: The Words of Mass Deception
Michael Rivero, What Really Happened
...They dropped precision-guided munitions on Saddam Hussein's major
western air-defense facility, clearing the path for Special Forces
helicopters that lay in wait in Jordan. Earlier attacks had been carried
out against Iraqi command and control centers, radar detection systems,
Revolutionary Guard units, communication centers and mobile air-defense
systems. The Pentagon's goal was clear: Destroy Iraq's ability to resist.
This was war. ... Th! is was September 2002--a month before Congress had
voted to give President Bush the authority he used to invade Iraq, two
months before the United Nations brought the matter to a vote and more than
six months before "shock and awe" officially began...

Samarra' Assaulted by Guerrillas
Juan Cole, Informed Comment
The LA Times reports that guerrillas launched a major attack in Samarra on
Wednesday. Carloads of gunmen came into the city and attacked a building
used by security forces with rocket propelled grenades. They then attacked
the hospital, until US and Iraqi government forces responded to attacks.
When ten carloads of guerrillas can just drive into town and shoot it up,
you know no one is really in control of the place. Samarra is an important
city north o! f Baghdad, with a population of nearly 200,000. Its early
Islamic monuments make it symbolically important. The LA Times says that
guerrillas also killed Kamal Khalid Zebari, a Kurdish security chief of
Mosul...

MEDIA ALERT: CONSPIRACY – THE DOWNING STREET MEMO – PART 2
MEDIA LENS: Correcting for the distorted vision of the corporate media
...Anyone who wonders how Bush and Blair, clearly major war criminals, are
able to remain in power, need look no further than the mendacious record of
corporate media performance above, which is all but uniform right across
the media ‘spectrum’. Only Smith, writing in the Sunday Times, has managed
to state honestly the significance of the documents leaked to him...

Response to Bush’s Iraq Fantasy Speech: More of the Same
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
As we know, there is very little difference between Tweedle Dee Democrats
and Tweedle Dum Republicans. In the wake of Bush’s fairy tale speech at
Ford Bragg—a fairy tale in the fact most of it was made up (i.e., the
United States is fighting al-Qaeda and Osama in Iraq)—U.S. Congress
critters strived to make this similarity obvious, as if to remind us they
are all on the same page, albeit with minor stylistic differences! ...

Imperial Defiance
Joel Miller, ICH
...It also shows us who are the Patrick Henrys of today and who are the
foreign invaders and aggressors; who are the defenders of their homes and
who are the pawns of King George. Of course the aggressors will label the
resistance in pejorative terms and describe their actions in bloody-black
colors. "Ragged rebels against the crown" sounded a lot like "insurgents"
or "terrorist" to the ears of 18th century Englishmen. The weapon-bearing
farmers who attacked the orderly rows of ! uniformed soldiers from hidden
positions behind trees and rocks were described as cowardly and immoral for
not fighting on an open field as prescribed by the conventions of war. The
guerilla tactics of the colonial minutemen awakened the same revulsion and
fear among the British troops 230 years ago as suicide bombers and
IED-attacks do today among American troops...

the AIPAC spy investigation. It is interesting in that it is massively

The New York Times closes ranks with Bush on Iraq war
Barry Grey, WSWS
On Tuesday night President Bush went on national television and rehashed
the lies his administration is using to justify the slaughter in Iraq. On
Wednesday, the New York Times published an editorial that sums up the
position of the so-called “liberal” establishment and the Democratic Party.
Oozing evasion and duplicity, the editorial testifies to the commitment of
the entire American ruling elite to the war and the complicity of the
Democrats! in the imperialist enterprise...

Editorial: The biggest of Big Lies
The Capital Times
To the extent that George Bush had retained the slightest shred of dignity
through the whole ugly Iraq imbroglio, it was found in his refusal to fully
embrace the biggest of the Big Lies told by his aides: the claim that
Saddam Hussein had played a role in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the
World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The president was never honorable in
this regard...

9/11 – US Complicity: Implausible, or Very Probable?
Questions for the People Who Believe the Official Conspiracy Theory
TvNewsLIES.org
...So you think it ludicrous to suggest that a rogue group within our
government was involved in the events of September 11th, 2001? You don’t
even think it is worth your time to examine the overwhelming physical
evidence that is available for your viewing, which at the very least
disproves the official “conspiracy theory” put forth by the government and
their mouthpieces in! the corporate media? Let me ask you folks some
questions. Help me out here. If I am to ignore all the physical evidence
that indicates government complicity I need you to explain to me why I
should ignore the unprecedented actions by the Bush administration
preceding the events, that seem to have no other purpose other than to
prevent an event like 9/11 from being stopped and to prepare to set in
motion their pre-planned agenda that would only be accepted after an event
like 9/11...

Bush: USS Titanic stays the course...
Henk Ruyssenaars
...The biggest military power on earth using the worst imaginable
anti-human weapons ever, was never threatened by any country, but still
Bush's 'spin doctors' had him say: "We fight today because terrorists want
to attack our country and kill our citizens, and Iraq is where they are
making their stand. So we will fight them there, we will fight them across
the world and we will stay in the fight until the fight is won." The US
cabal's presidential 'front man! ' offered no shift of course: "We have a
clear path forward,'' he said, sounding like the SS Titanic's captain,
ignoring the icebergs surrounding him...

"All Roads Lead to Baghdad: A Strategic Analysis of Unity in the
U.S.Anti-War Movement"
Virginia Rodino
...Iraq is now the achilles heel of the beast, the U.S. government's drive
for empire. Battered, raw, exposed, this point must be focused on by the
anti-Imperialist Left in the United States: Efforts must continue to strike
away at this concentrated weakness. It is a crucial moment and a critical
decision. Not because the Haitians, the Palestinians, the domestic poor and
abused are any less deserving of liberat! ion, but because ultimately a
victory of the Iraqi people against the U.S. war machine is a victory for
liberation struggles around the globe...

Push for autonomy develops in Iraqi south
Edward Wong The New York Times
With the Aug. 15 deadline for writing a new constitution bearing down, some
powerful, mostly secular Shiite politicians are pushing for the creation of
an autonomous region in the oil-rich south of Iraq, challenging the
country's central authority. The politicians argue that the
long-impoverished south has never gotten its fair share of the nation's oil
money, even though the bulk of the country's oil reserves lie near Basra,
at the head of ! the Gulf. "We want to destroy the central system that
connects the entire country to the capital," said Bakr al-Yasseen, a former
foe of Saddam who spent years in exile in Syria.
He is a chief organizer of the autonomy campaign, which is supported by
Ahmad Chalabi, a one-time favorite of the Pentagon and the scion of a
prominent Shiite family from the south, among others...

Saddam rejects meeting U.S. officials
UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL
...The London-based al-Quds al-Arabi quoted unidentified sources close to
Saddam and his lawyers as saying the former leader turned down an offer by
U.S. Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld to urge the resistance to put down
their arms in return for preventing the court from sentencing him to death.
One of Saddam's lawyers told the independent Palestinian-owned daily Saddam
had rejected the offer and refuses to meet any U.S. officials as a
prisoner, ! "but only as the president of Iraq and after the American
withdrawal" from the country...

President Bush: Inspiration for "Insurgents" and "Terrorists"
Stan Moore
...President Bush has made another critical mistake in last night's speech.
He made it clear to the Iraqi freedom fighters that he had no intention
whatsoever of giving up the fight against them. Bush made it clear that his
goal is to kill the insurgents because their philosophy of freedom from
American imperialism is completely irreconcilable with American goals for
Iraq. Thus, there is nothing the insurgents can do but to fight and fight
u! ntil they win. If there are any contacts and negotiations between Iraqi
insurgents and American leadership, no doubt the negotiations are about
American surrender, not Iraqi surrender. How can Iraqi insurgents surrender
when America's goal is to take their land, their wealth, and even their
lives?...
