WHAT A WANKER!
Malcom Lagauche
...When asked about the horrific events now occurring in Iraq, he tried to
put a positive slant on the issue. Rumsfeld told the host that he gave
George Bush a list of 15 things that could go wrong prior to the illegal
invasion of Iraq in March 2003: oil wells being set on fire; mass refugees
and relocations; blown-up bridges; and a moat of oil around Baghdad. He
then said, "So a great many of the bad things that could have happened did
not happen." Genius. To use Rumsfeld’s logic, ! one could point out that
the people in the area of the devastating tsunami that killed hundreds of
thousands of people about six months ago could be upbeat because they did
not suffer a nuclear bomb attack at the same time...

Another Karl Rove production - Bush speaks with troops as his stage props
Stan Goff
...Bush’s war has not made anyone safer. It has, however, destroyed the
lives of thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, and
according to international polls, the United States is now held in lower
public esteem in the world than China. The United States is already
suffering higher casualties than we were at the same stage of the Vietnam
War. So, okay, Iraq is NOT Vietnam. It could, in fact, get worse. Rumsfeld!
is now telling us that the war could last for 12 more years...

Fallujah massacre and tsunami: hypocrisy and double standards
Farhat Quammaquami, Tehran Times On-line
...Indeed, it’s been months since the “Thanksgiving Massacre” of Fallujah
in 2004, which took place in memory of the first Thanksgiving Massacre of
700 Pequot Indians in 1637, and the world has yet to see an investigative
report from the scenes of death and destruction in Fallujah. All we know is
that the “city of a thousand mosques” was demolished so brutally that
residents spoke of even dogs not being able to ! live there. In the words
of Captain Paul Fowler to the Boston Globe: “The only way to root them out
is to destroy everything in your path”...

Salvador Option: Death Squads in Iraq
Hal C , Daily Kos
In January, Newsweek reported that the Pentagon was considering the
Salvador Option for Iraq--US-trained Death Squads—in an article titled ‘The
Salvador Option’ The Pentagon may put Special-Forces-led assassination or
kidnapping teams in Iraq. Today, Knight-Ridder reports that the Death
Squads seem to have arrived in an article titled Campaign of executions
feared in Iraq. Slain Sunnis have arrived at Baghdad's morgue blindfolded,
bound and shot. The auth! or of today's K-R article himself was shot and
killed under mysterious circumstances last week in Baghdad...

Washington in crisis over opposition to Iraq war
Bill Van Auken, WSWS
...Bush is set to deliver a rare prime-time television address Tuesday
night, using massed troops at Fort Bragg in North Carolina as his backdrop.
The setting is itself highly significant, casting the president once again
as the war-time “commander-in-chief,” accountable to no one because of his
control over the US military. The administration’s recent attempts to
portray anyone questioning its policy in Iraq as a traitor and accomplice
in the ! death of American troops is a measure of its growing desperation
in the face of a sea-change in public opinion...

US military sinks further into the Iraqi quagmire
Peter Symonds, WSWS
By any measure, the US military occupation of Iraq is steadily sinking into
a quagmire of Washington’s own making. Successive claims by the Bush
administration that the capture of Saddam Hussein in December 2003, the
installation of an interim administration last June, national elections in
January and the inauguration of the new puppet government of Prime Minister
Abrahim al-Jaafari in April would end armed resistance have proven to be
complet! ely illusory. There is no end in sight to the daily attacks on
American and allied military personnel, or Iraqi government security
forces...

WTI Reaches Final Verdict in Istanbul: Bush and Blair Guilty
Dilek Hayirli, zaman.com
The World Tribunal on Iraq (WTI) composed of various international
non-governmental organizations, academics, including professors of law,
lawyers and judges have found US President George W. Bush and British Prime
Minister Tony Blair guilty of the war in Iraq (...) The verdict proves all
justifications of the Iraqi occupation are false and the US and the UK
invaded Iraq to keep the Middle East under pressure and hegemony, to co!
ntrol oil resources and to strengthen Israel's position in the world. It
reads that Bush and Blair committed one of the most illegitimate, unfair,
and vicious and cravenly wars of history...

A Defeat Bred in Deceit
Paul Craig Roberts
When Bush decided, prior to September 11, to attack Iraq, he committed
himself to lies and deceit. As his British co-conspirators realized, only
victory could save them from the consequences. On June 27, General George
Casey, US commander of the “multinational coalition” in Iraq, told morning
TV audiences that the conflict in Iraq “will not be settled on the
battlefield.” On June 26, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told TV
audiences that “coalition forces, foreign forc! es are not going to repress
that insurgency.” The insurgency, Rumsfeld said, might “go on five, six,
eight, 10, 12 years.” (...) What kind of fantastic lie or gross
incompetence caused a 12-year war to be marketed as a 3-week war?..

Trashing the Constitution in the name of "Terrorism"
Meria Heller, MMN
...Newly released are the “Downing Street Papers” where proof positive of
Blair and Bush planning to cook intel for any reason to go into Iraq in
2002 is shown. We as a nation were lied to into a war for profit and
conquest. We have lost over 1700 of our children fighting a corporate war.
Halliburton who still sends checks to Richard Cheney, is stealing our hard
earned tax dollars with no-bid contracts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Without
any proo! f of who created 9/11/01, Bush went into Afghanistan and Iraq on
behalf of the Central Bank and to “save” the U.S. dollar from countries who
wanted to trade their oil in Euros and not the dollar...

Sunni men in Baghdad targeted by attackers in police uniforms
Tom Lasseter and Yasser Salihee, Knight Ridder Newspapers
Days after Iraq's new Shiite-led government was announced on April 28, the
bodies of Sunni Muslim men began turning up at the capital's central morgue
after the men had been detained by people wearing Iraqi police uniforms.
Faik Baqr, the director and chief forensic investigator at the central
Baghdad morgue, said the corpses first caught his attention because the men
appeared to have been kille! d in methodical fashion...

WHAT ELSE DID THE BASTARDS LIE ABOUT?
Michael Rivero, What Really Happened
...Because Bush lied to the Congress in his letter of March 18, 2003, the
Congressional authorization for the use of force in Iraq is not legally in
effect. Therefore, no serviceman or servicewoman is legally obligated to
serve in Iraq one more day.

...As long as we tolerate lies in government we will live under a
government that lies to us. And because of those lies, we can never know
the truth of the world we live in, whether taxes are legal, wars are just,
our economy as good as it can be. On the day We The People have the
strength to make the cost of a lie outweigh the gain, on the day We The
People drag the liars from office and hurl them into the streets in the
most humiliating manner possible, then and only then will we have a
government that is truthful. And we will not have it one day before. We
have caught the government lying to us. What will you do about it?...

The unofficial war: U.S., Britain led massive secret bombing campaign
before Iraq war was declared
Larisa Alexandrovna and John Byrne, Raw Story
A U.S. general who commanded the U.S. allied air forces in Iraq has
confirmed that the U.S. and Britain conducted a massive secret bombing
campaign before the U.S. actually declared war on Iraq. The quote, passed
from RAW STORY to the London Sunday Times last week, raises troubling
questions of whether President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair
engaged in an il! legal war before seeking a UN resolution or congressional
approval...

15 Things Learned About Bush And Co.: An Impeachment List
Bernard Weiner
...Below is a quick list of fifteen things that I - and maybe half of my
fellow Americans - have learned since George Bush first moved into the Oval
Office four-plus years ago. I don't know about you, but making such lists
helps me sum up and clarify my thoughts, giving me something to chew on
when figuring out what to do next, including the possibility of moving on
some of these items as grounds for impeachment. See what you think...

Iraq: A bloody mess
Patrick Cockburn, Independent
A year ago the supposed handover of power by the US occupation authority to
an Iraqi interim government led by Iyad Allawi was billed as a turning
point in the violent history of post-Saddam Iraq. It has turned out to be
no such thing. Most of Iraq is today a bloody no-man's land beset by
ruthless insurgents, savage bandit gangs, trigger-happy US patrols and
marauding government forces...

More Evidence Indicts U.S.
Dahr Jamail, Inter Press Service
New evidence on U.S. war crimes and violations of international law was
presented at the concluding session of the World Tribunal on Iraq at
hearings in Istanbul Sunday (...) ”The assault on Iraq is an assault on all
of us: on our dignity, our intelligence, and our future,” Roy said at the
hearings.. ”We recognise that the judgment of the World Tribunal on Iraq is
not binding in international law. However, our ambitions far surpass that.
The World Tribun! al on Iraq places its faith in the consciences of
millions of people across the world who do not wish to stand by and watch
while the people of Iraq are being slaughtered, subjugated, and
humiliated.”...

Call Sensenbrenner's Office
OrbStandard
As you all know by now, the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee Rep
Sensenbrenner refused Rep Conyers the right to hold a hearing on the
Downing Street Memo. It is Sensenbrenner's prerogative to decide what is,
or is not, heard in the Judiciary. It is reasonable that Sensenbrenner
would not wish to have a formal hearing on the Downing Street Memo since it
shows, with no ambiguity, that President Bush and senior members of his
administration lied to Congress and the Ameri! can people to justify a
premeditated war of aggression based on intelligence and facts being fixed
around the policy.

Suicide Bombers as Freedom Fighters?
Jude Wanniski
...Donald Rumsfeld, on the Sunday talk shows yesterday, clearly indicated
he does not understand that the "insurgents" in Iraq are fighting and
dieing, even willing to commit suicide if need be to protect hearth and
home from the American invaders and occupiers. Rumsfeld still insists the
suicide bombers are outside religious fanatics from Syria or Saudi Arabia
and that Iraqis themselves wouldn't blow themselves up...

hostile fire. Over 70 British army troops have joined Iraqi insurgents in

soldiers were killed over the past days in Iraq in clashes with US marines,
forcing the British officials to launch an investigation into the

Bush’s War Against Iraq Ruining America
Paul Craig Roberts
Last Friday the price of light sweet crude oil on the New York Mercantile
Exchange for August delivery closed 16 cents short of $60/barrel – the
highest price ever and an ironic outcome for the millions of Americans who
believe that cheap oil was the reason for Bush’s invasion of Iraq. Equally
shocking to Americans was the announcement that China has outbid US oil
giant Chevron for the American oil company, Unocal...

criminal'. This angered Mr Aziz and me, and we had heated argument with
him," he said. "It is not acceptable and I am filing a complaint asking for
