Bloggers are outwitting the Mainstream and Corporate Media!
Abu Assur
These days, they are rather worried. They are of no use any longer ! They
have lost their aura. The carpet is being withdrawn from underneath their
feet. Worse, they might even lose their jobs. They have become a burden for
their employer. You guessed whom I am talking about ! The mainstream media
or their masters' voice, the corporate media (...) Today things are
changing. (Bush dumb, will immediately say it is because he attacked Iraq!)
Blogg! ers and blogs are winning to the point that the mighty US Pentagon
whores with all their finances, all their mercenaries, all their radio and
TV stations all their technology, popraganda, and psyOp's are scared to
death from these small bloggers sites which denounce the US tyranny and
lies...

Wall Street Journal alibis for Nazi-style crimes in Iraq
Bill Van Auken, WSWS
In an editorial titled “As bad as the Nazis,” the Wall Street Journal
Monday launched a smear campaign against the International Committee of the
Red Cross, while attempting to cover up the crimes carried out by the US
military in the illegal war in Iraq. The newspaper’s editorial board, whose
right-wing writings closely reflect prevailing opinion within the Bush
administration, feigned outrage at an alleged incident in wh! ich an
exasperated Red Cross official compared the US personnel at Camp Bucca, a
detention camp in Iraq, to Nazi concentration camp guards.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A WEATHERMAN TO KNOW WHICH WAY THE WIND BLOWS
Malcom Lagauche
...The article went on to say that Bush quickly negated Karzai’s demand for
custody of Afghani prisoners as well. This was quite a spectacle that
happened quickly. Bush and Karzai went inside to discuss the issues.
Shortly after, they emerged and Bush strongly told what was to happen.
Karzai meekly stood by his side. Bush took him to the woodshed, admonished
him, and then publicly humiliated Karzai in his speech to the press. Karz!
ai got on board a plane and went home, tail between his legs (...) Saddam
Hussein may have been recently photographed in his underwear, yet he never
was humiliated in front of the world in the manner in which Karzai allowed
himself to be yesterday in Washington, D.C...

al-Habbaniyah Monday night, in an assault that lasted more than an hour.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Habbaniyah reported witnesses
as saying that the attack began at the time of the nighttime prayer, Monday
night at about 9:30 local time, and! ended at about 11pm. At a steady pace

US military deaths on the increase in Iraq
Associated Press
A car bomb exploded next to a U.S. Army convoy in Baghdad on Tuesday,
killing three soldiers, while another American died in a drive-by shooting
a half-hour later. Their deaths pushed the number of U.S. troops killed in
three days to 14, part of a surge in attacks that have also killed more
than 60 Iraqis. In the northern city of Tal Afar, there were reports that
militants were in control and that Shiites and Sunnis were fighting in the
streets, a day a! fter two car bombs killed at least 20 people. Police
Capt. Ahmed Hashem Taki said Tal Afar was experiencing "civil war."
Journalists were blocked from entering the city of 200,000...

Proposal to divide Iraq into semi-autonomous states gains ground
NANCY A. YOUSSEF, Knight Ridder Newspapers
As Iraq begins writing its new constitution, leaders in the country's
southern regions are pushing aggressively to unite their three provinces
into an oil-rich, semi-autonomous state, a plan that some worry could
solidify Iraq's sectarian tensions, create fights over oil revenues and
eventually split the nation. In the southern Shiite Muslim city of Basra,
where the provincial government launched the campai! gn, signs on the
streets encourage residents to support the plan...

The "Turkey Shoot" and Lessons of Military History Remembered and Forgotten
Stan Moore, MMN
...The Iraqis have proved that they are willing to accept casualties in
defense of their nation, but they are determined to inflict them this time
around. The Iraqis are focusing on asymmetrical warfare, guerilla warfare,
and small scale, dispersed warfare with fluid movements, and decentralized
planning and decentralized command and control. The American forces are not
equipped and motivated to fight in this manner. The A! mericans have been
forced to retreat into heavily fortified enclaves and duck mortars and make
occasional tactical patrols with heavy air cover, hoping that their patrol
and their vehicles are not the target each time around...

Michael Isikoff: Government News Source Junkie
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
“It was terrible what happened,” Michael Isikoff, spineless journalist for
Newsweek, told Charlie Rose. “Even if it was just a little bit that we
contributed to the violence that went on over there, that was awful,
terrible.” No, Isikoff wasn’t talking about the “violence that went on” in
Iraq and Afghanistan, so far resulting in the murder of more than 100,000
people, but rather the mistake he made in telling the truth about wha! t
goes on every day in places like Guantanamo Bay, Bagram AFB, Camp Cropper,
and other dismal facilities within Bush’s torture and sexual humiliation
gulag. Problem is so-called journalists such as Michael Isikoff are like
junkies, relying on so-called “sources” in the government for their
stories, and when the government turns around and bites them in the ass
they are screwed, damaging their precious careers in the process...

River city in the troubled Anbar province Wednesday, killing at least three
insurgents after launching the second major operation in this vast western
region in less than a month, an official said. The offensives are aimed at

Common Dreams (press release),
..."The astronomical waste of taxpayers' money, torture of detainees,
inadequate protection for U.S. troops facing enemy fire, disregard for the
effects of depleted uranium, and 1,600-plus deaths of American personnel

The British (State) Broadcasting Corporation – A Coalition of the Killing?
William Bowles, I'n'I
Yesterday, May 23, we had an entire day without the BBC’s blanket
non-coverage of important events due to a strike by the three main unions
over threatened redundancies. A blessing in disguise? Well maybe… And if I
may strike a totally au contraire view of the BSBC’s plans for the future,
perhaps laying off a few thousand comfortable pen-pushing peons for the
state is long overdue? After all, without the compli! city of those who
prostitute themselves in return for a pension, perhaps they could put their
hard-won skills to better use?...

Supporting dissent is not enough
Camilo Mejia , ZNet
Just about a year a go I was tried by a special Court-Martial at Fort
Stewart, Georgia. The charge: desertion with the intent to avoid hazardous
duty. My case received a lot of attention from the media, mainly because I
was the first Iraq veteran to have been to combat, returned on a two-week
furlough, and publicly refused to return to Iraq while denouncing the war
as illegal, and who then surrendered himself to military authorities. For
the first time since th! e invasion of Iraq the military had to deal with
the delicate issue of public dissent within the ranks...

Yet another instance of an American 'terrorist act' in Iraq ... ?
Imad Khadduri
"On Friday [May 13, 2005], a 64 years old Iraqi farmer, Haj Haidar Abu
Sijjad, took his tomato load in his pickup truck from Hilla to Baghdad,
accompanied by Ali, his 11 years old grandson. They were stopped at an
American check point and were asked to dismount. An American soldier
climbed on the back of the pickup truck, followed by another a few minutes
later, and thoroughly inspected the tomato filled plastic containers for
about ! 10 minutes. Haj Haidar and his grandson were then allowed to
proceed to Baghdad.(also Arab version inside)

(ACEJ) 2003 sponsored tour by former US Army physicist Dr Doug Rokke. He
features in the film, which has important messages for Australians. After
former US Army physicist Dr Doug Rokke's visit to Australia in 2003 a new
organisation was formed to continue creating awareness of the horrific
effects of depleted uranium (DU) ammunition on soldiers and innocent
civilians alike. It is called Depleted Uranium Silent Killer (DUSK).

Unseen Pictures, Untold Stories: How The U.S. Press Has Sanitized The War
in Iraq
Democracy Now!
Images of thousands of dead U.S. soldiers helped to turn the tide of public
opinion against the Vietnam War, but now photo-journalists are even banned
from military funerals at Arlington national cemetery. A report this
weekend in the Los Angeles Times documented the extremely rare publication
of photos of American casualties in six major newspapers during a sixth
month period. Readers of the Atlanta Journal-Constitut! ion, Los Angeles
Times, New York Times, St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Washington Post never
saw a single picture of a dead serviceman or servicewoman in their morning
papers...

Just What You'd Expect
Galloway and the US Press
MARIA TOMCHICK, CounterPunch
Cowardice is the only way to describe the recent coverage of George
Galloway's hearing before the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on
Investigations. Not only did the nation's two major dailies get many of the
facts wrong, they went out of their way to paint Galloway as guilty. I'm
going to pick on the Washington Post and the New York Times...

The Psychosis Inherent in Religious Capitalism: Causation in "The Crime of
the Century"
Dr. Gerry Lower, Axis of Logic
...Under the Bush administration's religious capitalism, America has become
the scene for "The Crime of the Century." This became quickly apparent with
the recent emergence of a "secret Downing Street memo" which "proves that
everything the Bush administration said about the Iraq invasion was a lie"
(David Michael Green, Common Dreams, AxisofLogic, May 15, 2005). So damning
was this document, it ! received essentially no mention in the mainstream
American press, which seems more bent on preserving the crony capitalism
upon which America has come to depend...

Audit Criticizes Iraq's Handling of Oil Sales after Power Transfer
USA Today
The board monitoring Iraq's oil revenue said Monday that Iraqi leaders
mishandled about $100 million in oil money meant for development in the six
months after they took power from the U.S. government. The International
Advisory and Monitoring Board said a new audit also found the now-defunct
U.S. Coalition Provisional Authority used questionable accounting practices
with money from the Development Fund for Iraq. It also singled out the !
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for refusing to provide files for contracts
that were funded with Iraqi oil revenue...

A base for the corruption of democracy
Scott Ritter, Aljazeera.net
...The purple finger revolution of January 2005 has proved only one thing:
that the US media is capable of building something out of nothing. Any
informed observer of Iraq could have predicted the failure of the elections
to produce any viable result; Iraq as a nation state was simply too deeply
fractured for a process sponsored by an illegitimate military occupier to
succeed. But one doesn't need to be an expert on Iraq to have figured this
out.! ..

Sick strategies for senseless slaughter
John Kaminski
The cat is out of the bag now. It happened quite by accident, as most
revelations do. And it is seen by most of the world as the most revolting
of the American/Israeli atrocities in the past few years, although it's
hard to prioritize that claim because of the level and frequency of
barbaric acts that are committed on a regular basis by those affluent
automatons who call themselves the good guys (...) The first hint came in
Imad Khadduri's "A warning to car d! rivers" (...) Khadduri recounted a
scam that opens up a clear window to seeing who is perpetrating all this
inexplicable violence in Iraq. Beyond the American attempt to pacify an
outraged and abused nation through demonic destruction, and beyond the
Iraqi attempt to resist this totalitarian takeover by a foreign conqueror,
there are more than numerous acts of violence that simply can't be
understood by straightforward explanations...

Sunni Scholars Propose Anti-Sectarian Code of Honor
Samir Haddad, IOL Correspondent
The influential Association of Muslim Scholars (AMS), Iraq's highest Sunni
religious authority, has drown up a code of honor to nip in the bud
sectarian strife in the US-occupied country. The document, a copy of which
was obtained by IslamOnline.net, was given to representatives of young
Shiite leader Muqtada Al-Sad, negotiating between Sunnis and other Shiite
powers. It urges all Iraqi parties to avoid all acts fueling sectarian !
division in the country and to work for Iraq's supreme interests. The
document also pressed for an end to all practices which might enflame the
situation in the country whether from politicians, officials or the media...
