ALTERNATIVE RADIO
"Democracy and U.S. Foreign Policy" -Noam Chomsky

CIA Director Porter Goss warned Congress that ìIslamic extremists are
exploitingî the Iraq war ìto recruit new jihadists.î Those who survived
the war, he said, were likely to leave Iraq "experienced and focused on
acts of urban terrorism.î And that it would ìonly be a matter of time
before Al Qaedaî uses weapons of mass destruction. How does that track
with the frequent Administration statements that the war has made the
world safer? Do the pliant corporate media even notice these glaring
contradictions? Iraq has become exactly what critics predicted: a
magnet for the jihad and a breeding ground for terrorism. The response
from the White House? Not to worry. Democracy will save the day.

Noam Chomsky, internationally renowned MIT professor, practically
invented modern linguistics. In addition to his pioneering work in that
field he has been a leading voice for peace and social justice. He is
in such demand as a public speaker that he is booked years in advance.
And wherever he appears, he draws huge audiences. "The New Statesman"
calls him, "The conscience of the American people." He is the author of
scores of books. His latest is the bestseller "Hegemony or Survival."

COUNTERSPIN
John Hockenberry on Million Dollar Baby, Dahr Jamail on Iraq

This week on CounterSpin: Sure, Million Dollar Baby is just a movie,
but given how rarely the media spotlight ever makes it around to people
with disabilities, the movie is bound to shape public opinion and
understanding. So the questions provoked by the film would seem to
deserve more thoughtful, and inclusive, journalistic treatment than
theyíve thus far received. We'll talk about media coverage of the
controversial Oscar winning film and its ostensible message with NBC
correspondent John Hockenberry, author also of "Moving Violations: War
Zones, Wheelchairs, and Declarations of Independence."

MAKING CONTACT
"Humanitarian Crisis in Haiti"

Nearly one year after U.S. Marines ushered former President
Jean-Bertrand Aristide from the country, Haiti has sunk into ever
deepening despair. On this edition, Correspondent Reed Lindsay takes a
look at the offensive launched by the U.S.-backed Haitian government
against supporters of the former president. We'll examine the return of
the feared Haitian military, and see how the United Nations
peacekeeping force in Haiti is turning a blind eye to state-sponsored
human rights abuses. And we'll hear from Haiti's poor, who have been
the hardest hit by the change in government.

TUC RADIO
Naomi Klein: War and Fleeze: How Economic Shock Therapy Backfired in
Iraq

Naomi Klein, the award-winning journalist and author of the
international best seller, No Logo, spoke to the abyss between the spin
of the new democratic Iraq in the US media and the reality on the
ground. The wave of privatization, instituted by Paul Bremer and
reinforced by the International Monetary Fund, will not easily be
reversed since the new government needs an impossible to reach majority
to undo Bremer's laws and enact the wishes of the Iraqi people. The
IMF, the US government, the Paris Club and other international
organizations are making a cruel joke of the promise of self
determination in Iraq.
