THOUSANDS PROTEST ON ANNIVERSARY OF INDIA'S BHOPAL INDUSTRIAL DISASTER
Thousands of people held protest marches and hurled stones
at a former Union Carbide chemical plant in the Indian city
of Bhopal on Tuesday, the 18th anniversary of a gas leak
that killed nearly 15,000 people in one of the world's worst
industrial accidents. The protesters also burned effigies
of Warren M. Anderson, an American who was then chairman
of Union Carbide, and demanded his extradition from the
United States to face trial in an Indian court.
