British 'aid' to CIA covert operations in Iraq?
Imad Khadduri , Free Iraq
A grab from footage released on September 20, 2005 shows weapons which
Iraqi police said were confiscated from two undercover British soldiers
after their arrest in Basra, southern Iraq, September 19, 2005. (Reuters)
And speaking of 'aid', as in USAID "... amid pleas for aid after Hurricane
Katrina, the Bush administration has launched an unusual effort to raise
charitable contributions for another cause: the government's attempt to
rebuil! d Iraq (...) Contributors have no way of knowing who's getting the
money or precisely where it's headed because the government says it must
keep the details secret for security reasons..."

A DOUBLE HAT-TRICK
Malcom Lagauche
...Ahmed Chalabi may be the biggest crook of all time. I will not go into
detail, but I think most of my readers are well aware of his exploits. For
instance, in 1993, Chalabi was sentenced in abstentia to 23 years hard
labor in Jordan for bank fraud. In the 1990s, he wreaked havoc on the Swiss
banking system. Chalabi’s underhanded and fraudulent misdeeds have put him
at the pinnacle of the fraud standings. He stands heads and shoulders above
the world’s best con men. Chalabi’s ! activities have earned him the
hat-trick of fraud. However, in one quick swoop, someone has emerged who
puts Chalabi to shame: former Iraqi defense minister Hazim Shaalan, who
served in the short-lived but very damaging Allawi regime. Iraqi stooge
authorities are preparing an arrest warrant for him alleging that he stole
more than $1 billion from the ministry budget. Some estimates of his
fraudulent actions put the figure as high as $2.3 billion...

Fake Terrorism Is a Coalition's Best Friend
Matt Hutaff
...Two members of the British Armed forces disguised as Arab civilians
killed a member of the Iraqi police while evading capture. When the people
of Basra rightfully refused to turn the murderers over to the British
government, per Coalition "mandate," they sent their own men in and
released over 100 prisoners in the process. Winning the hearts and minds,
aren't we? Sadly, this story is really not all that surprising. After
hearing countless accounts of usin! g napalm and torture against innocent
civilians in addition to the other daily abuses dished out by American
overseers, the thought of British scheming seems perfectly reasonable. So
what we have here is a clear instance of a foreign power attempting to
fabricate a terrorist attack. Why else would the soldiers be dressed as
Arabs if not to frame them? Why have a car laden with explosives if you
don't plan to use them for destructive purposes? Iraq is headed towards
civil war, and this operation was meant to accelerate the process by
killing people and blaming others...

The British Bombers
Sploid.com
The last remaining public justification for the U.S./U.K. occupation of
Iraq is terrorism: The foreign forces cannot leave until Iraq is somewhat
peaceful and the terrorists have been defeated. That threadbare reasoning
was ripped apart on Monday as the world -- other than the United States,
where broadcast media avoided the story -- was shown two agents
provocateurs employed by the British government. Their exact mission will
never be proven. The evidence, however, is damnin! g...

British prison break and blown covert operation, exposes "war on terrorism" lie
Larry Chin, GlobalResearch.ca
On Monday, September 19, 2005, six British armored vehicles smashed into an
Iraqi jail in Basra to free two undercover SAS elite special forces
commandos who were engaged in a bungled espionage operation involving the
planting of explosives. Michel Chossudovsky breaks the story down here and
puts it in to context: British "Undercover Soldiers" Caught driving Booby
Trapped Car. See also the mainstream cove! rage from BBC, Washington Post,
The Independent and the Christian Science Monitor. This incident is as
obvious and embarrassing as the 1986 downing of Oliver North’s Southern Air
Transport/CIA supply plane over Nicaragua (piloted by Eugene Hasenfus),
which started what is known as the Iran-Contra scandal. In the wake of
official denials and tap-dancing from the British, a new cover-up is
already underway...

British Special Forces Caught Carrying Out Staged Terror In Iraq?
Paul Joseph Watson
In another example of how the Iraqi quagmire is deliberately designed to
degenerate into a chaotic abyss, British SAS were caught attempting to
stage a terror attack and the media have dutifully shut up about the real
questions surrounding the incident. What is admitted is that two British
soldiers in Arab garb and head dress drove a car towards a group of Iraq
police and began firing. According to the Basra governor Mohammed al-!
Waili, one policeman was shot dead and another was injured...

Iraqis have accused British special forces of planning a terrorist attack
on Basra.
Socialist Worker
Sheikh Hassan al-Zarqani, a spokesperson for rebel Shia cleric Moqtada
al-Sadr, told Socialist Worker that the two undercover soldiers seized by
Iraqi police last Monday were armed with explosives and a remote control
detonator. The soldiers were disguised as members of Sadr’s militia, the
Mehdi Army. The arrests sparked protests after British troops backed by
tanks attempted to free the soldiers from an Iraqi pol! ice station. Sheikh
Hassan said trouble started when a senior Sadr official, Sheikh Ahmad
Fartusi, was arrested on Sunday...

Were the British Soldiers Engaged in Counter-Insurgency Operation in Basra?
Yamin Zakaria
For certain, the ‘free’, ‘independent’ and embedded Anglo-US mass media
would have tried to spin the evidences surrounding the events in Basra to
suit the interests of their governments. However, in this case it was too
late, as the facts seemed to have already been reported by various other
media outlets. Let us examine what cannot be denied, on the basis of what
has been reported and corroborated by the Iraqi police and In! terior
Ministry officials, who are allies of the coalition forces...

Insurgents 'inside Iraqi police'
BBCNews
Iraq's National Security Adviser Muwafaq al-Rubaie has admitted the
country's security forces have been infiltrated by insurgents. Speaking on
the BBC's Newsnight programme, he said he had no idea how far they have
already been undermined. It comes after the British Army said it was forced
to take action to free two UK soldiers after learning Iraqi police had
handed them to a militia group...

Parsons, Iraq and the Bush cabal
Sarah Meyer

presumably near the new American base that is under construction (...)

FLASHBACK: Sanctions Against Iraq
A Violation of International Law
Since 6 August 1990, Iraq has been subjected to the most comprehensive
regime of sanctions ever imposed by the Security Council. Following the
Gulf War, the Security Council adopted resolution 687 in which a number of
obligations were imposed upon Iraq as a requirement for the establishment
of a formal end to the military operations. Iraq accepted those
obligations, which included the recognition of the sovereignty, territorial
integrity an! d political independence of Kuwait and the borders demarcated
by the U.N, and disarmament...

Iraq chaos threatens ancient faith
Kate Clark, BBC News
There are fears for the future of one of the most ancient, as well as the
smallest, communities in Iraq - the Mandeans. Their religion, Mandeanism,
comes from the same general background as Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
They share many of the same prophets, but particularly honour John the
Baptist. This is a religion almost solely confined to Iraq, but since the
US-led invasion in 2003, many Mandeans have fled the country and now more
than half of them li! ve outside its borders. The refugees speak of kidnap,
murder and attempts at forced conversion. One woman, Ibtisam Sabah Habib,
said there had always been some threats and pressure to convert to Islam,
but under the previous Iraqi regime there had been limits. "Now, there are
no rules and no government," she said...

Shattering Democracy: Sharon’s Plan for Palestine
Remi Kanazi
Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, showed his true colors earlier this
week as his normative praise of “democratic values” subsided. "I announced
as clearly as I could that we formally oppose Hamas participation in the
election as long as it is not disarmed and has not cancelled the Hamas
charter, which is a horrible document," Sharon stated on Wednesday. On
Saturday, he went further in an interview with reporters in New York,
rejecting calls for de! mocratic elections in the Occupied Territories, "We
will make every effort not to help [the Palestinians]. I don't think they
can have elections without our help"...

To say we must stay in Iraq to save it from chaos is a lie
Simon Jenkins, The Guardian
Don't be fooled a second time. They told you Britain must invade Iraq
because of its weapons of mass destruction. They were wrong. Now they say
British troops must stay in Iraq because otherwise it will collapse into
chaos. This second lie is infecting everyone. It is spouted by Labour and
Tory opponents of the war and even by the Liberal Democrat spokesman, Sir
Menzies Campbell. Its axiom is that western soldiers are so compet! ent
that, wherever they go, only good can result. It is their duty not to leave
Iraq until order is established, infrastructure rebuilt and democracy
entrenched...

Whistleblowers' stomach-curdling story: Halliburton serves contaminated
water to troops
Halliburton Watch
Outrage overflowed on Capitol Hill this summer when members of Congress
learned that Halliburton's dining halls in Iraq had repeatedly served
spoiled food to unsuspecting troops. "This happened quite a bit," testified
Rory Mayberry, a former food manager with Halliburton's KBR subsidiary. But
the outrage apparently doesn't end with spoiled food. Former KBR employees
and water quality specialists, Ben Carter a! nd Ken May, told
HalliburtonWatch that KBR knowingly exposes troops and civilians to
contaminated water from Iraq's Euphrates River. One internal KBR email
provided to HalliburtonWatch says that, for "possibly a year," the level of
contamination at one camp was two times the normal level for untreated
water...
