"Pre-emptive" Terrorism
Ghali Hassan, GlobalResearch.ca
...Iraq is disintegrating with every passing day of the Occupation. The US
aim in Iraq is the creation of a colonial dictatorship in order to
re-colonise Iraq economically and institutionally to serve US interests.
Like any act of terrorism, the violent US attack on Iraq is political. It
is about power. The US is able to manipulate the outcome of the violence it
created by altering the very language of politics. The war on Iraq is not
about fighting "terrori! sm"; it is a war of terror to enhance US imperial
control. There are conscious efforts by Western media and Western pundits
to discredit the images of the Iraqi people and the Resistance against the
Occupation. The Iraqi Resistance made up of local fighters and not
"terrorists" who target civilians. Those who target civilians (Iraqis and
non-Iraqis) are foreign intelligence agents and collaborators with the
Occupation forces. Billion of dollars have been spent to destroy the fabric
of the Iraqi society and divide the Iraqi people...

Anti-Colonial Ally or New Colonial Missionary?
Marta Rodriguez
Recently the U.S. Labor Against War coalition sponsored a tour of the Iraqi
Federation of Trade Unions, which generated some debate within the American
antiwar movement. At the heart of the controversy was IFTU's not-so-veiled
cooperation with the occupation (...) The U.S.'s good will toward the IFTU
is no coincidence. Like its parent organization, the Iraqi Communist Party,
the IFTU has supported the U.S. position that American troops must remain
in ! Iraq to crush the resistance, whom they've denounced as "Saddamist,"
"Islamic fascist," and "terrorist." (...) Unfortunately, the promotion of
the IFTU tour is only the latest instance in the U.S. antiwar movement's
efforts to isolate and delegitimize the Iraqi Resistance, whose "crime" was
taking up arms against the criminal mass murderers who occupied their
country without provocation....

Dr Salaam Ismael’s return to Fallujah, Iraq
Socialist Worker
...On the borders of Fallujah I found 5,000 people who were living on water
drawn directly from the river. Dr Shamael Ishawi is from the health clinic
in this area. He told me that the unclean river water is leading to the
spread of typhoid. Inside the city the hospital which I had spent some time
in earlier this year is in ruins. Refugees have returned to the city, but
they are living in appalling conditions. There is no evidence whatsoever of
the reco! nstruction effort that the Iraqi government and the US claim is
underway. Residents have to pass through five checkpoints to get into the
city. The Iraqi troops on the checkpoints humiliate the people, calling
them “sons of bitches, sons of dogs”...

Voices from the Iraqi wilderness
Socialist Worker
...The people of Iraq have suffered terribly over the last few years—but
now we find ourselves suffering under the “democracy” of tanks, sectarian
killings and torture. Life in Iraq now is very hard, full of terror and
fear. But we have to insist that the resistance has the right to defend
Iraq—not only against the American occupation, but also against the
sectarian militias that want to turn the mosques against the -Hussainiyas
(Shia places of worship), the churc! hes against the mosques, and brother
against brother. We know there are many sectarian militias kidnapping and
killing, groups like SCIRI (a pro-occupation Shia party) and the Kurdish
Peshmerga. They work for the occupation and are trying to turn Iraqi
against -Iraqi. Meanwhile the media paints the resistance with the brush of
sectarianism...

Reading Between the Lines: Gladio Ops Designed to Discredit the Iraqi
Resistance
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
It seems the corporate media reported on the Osama Moustafa Hassan Nasr
kidnap story in order to re-send the message that the CIA is in need of
reform, as telegraphed in the wake of nine eleven by the Bush whitewash
commission and the CIA’s freshly installed head, the neocon partisan Porter
Goss. News stories over the last couple years portray the CIA as Maxwell
Smart bunglers who allowed Osama t! o slip under the wire and fed bad
intelligence to Bush and crew on Iraq, when in fact the bad intelligence
(actually deliberately crafted propaganda) came from the Office of Special
Plans and a handful of Iraqi “dissidents” such as Ahmed Chalabi, a
Wolfowitz and Perle protégé and convicted embezzler...

Tomgram: Dahr Jamail on the Zarqawi Phenomenon
Tom Engelhardt & Dahr Jamail
...How to put together this conveniently satanic figure -- capable of
personalizing all the horrors of Iraq in a single monstrous body and
bringing them home to the American public in a way that the Bush
administration has found convenient -- with what little is known about a
possibly not-too-bright small-town thug is a curious challenge. Independent
journalist Dahr Jamail, who wrote for Tomdispatch (among other places) from
Baghdad and t! hen came home for a break, is now back in the Middle East
and, from Amman, Jordan, he went on his own search for the truth behind the
Zarqawi phenomenon...

Bush's damaged control,
Ed Naha, SmirkingChimp.com
...Wearing his poll numbers around his ankles, Bush had the AUDACITY to
link July 4th, our Independence Day, with his Empire building in Iraq and
with the terrorist attacks he allowed to happen on 9/11 (...) "At this
hour, our men and women in uniform are defending America against the
threats of the 21st century. The war we are fighting came to our shores on
September the 11th, 2001. (NOTE: Nope. Is this desperation or what?) After
that day, I made a pledge to th! e American people, we will not wait to be
attacked again. We will bring our enemies to justice, or bring justice to
our enemies. (NOTE: Is that dyslexic or what?)...

Clinton bombing of Iraq far exceeded Bush's in run-up to war; Bush 'spikes
of activity' questioned
RAW STORY
The U.S.-led coalition in Iraq dropped far more bombs during the sunset of
Bill Clinton’s presidency than under President George W. Bush in the run-up
to war in Iraq, RAW STORY has found. Between 1999 and 2001, the U.S. and
British-led air forces in Iraq dropped 1.3 million pounds of bombs in
response to purported violations of the no-fly zones and anti-aircraft fire
from Saddam Hussein (...) The nature of! the strikes differed; Clinton’s
bombings were part of what some dubbed a “war of attrition,” an attempt to
degrade Hussein’s hold on power without resorting to full-scale war,
whereas Bush’s bombings appear to have been part of a concerted effort to
clear the way for a ground invasion...

Blasts kill many in Iraq
Aljazeera.net
At least 23 people have been killed in Iraq when bombers blew themselves up
in two seperate attacks. Two blasts in quick succession killed six
policemen and wounded 26 people in Hilla, south of Baghdad, police said.
The first blast occurred about 10.30pm on Saturday when a bomber detonated
a belt of explosives while being searched by members of the elite Scorpion
police command at a checkpoint in the centre of the city, according to
Captain Muthana Khalid Ali of the Babil pr! ovincial press office...

Miller and Cooper: No Compromise to Corporate Journalism Already Compromised
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
Shed no tears for Judith Miller. Don’t be surprised over Time Magazine’s
spinelessness. It’s really too bad Miller will not go to prison for her
role in creating a pretext to murder 100,000 Iraqis. Time Magazine is more
worried about the damage to its business than it is about any possible
damage inflicted on journalism. The Supreme Court decision last week not to
hear the appeals of Miller and Matth! ew Cooper for refusing to squeal on
the Bushcon (probably Karl Rove) who outed CIA agent Valerie Plame “doesn’t
spell an end to journalism functioning as it should...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Monday, 4 July 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board,
the Free Arab Voice.
...The Iraqi Resistance issued a communiqué on Monday morning, that was
distributed among most mosques of Baghdad, saying that the forces of the
Iraqi Resistance had increased 40 percent over last year, and that the
strength of the Resistance was being augmented further every day, despite
the fierce battles that were being waged against the occupation throughout
! the country. The communiqué, which was posted on doors and outer walls of
mosques, stated that in spite of the continuing campaigns against the
Resistance by the Americans and the stooges, the apostates who have sold
out their religion and their country, the Resistance is increasing in
strength every day and every hour...

Hinges of History
Ernest Partridge, Co-Editor The Crisis Papers
... In his speech last week to the troops at Fort Bragg, George Bush
discovered that his lies have lost their leverage. The polls suggest that
at long last the public (less his “base”) has finally begun to wise-up.
“Fool me twice – not gonna be fooled again.” At the same time, the
revelations from Downing Street of the conniving and deceit that led us
into an immoral war have taken on a life of their own, thanks to the
internet and alternative press,! and notwithstanding first the silence of,
and then the debunking by, the mainstream media. The pressure of public
outrage is building, but it is diverse, diluted, inchoate, and without
leadership and direction...

FOR A FACT that Bush was safe where he sat reading about goats? How did the
United States Secret Service Protective Detail know they d! id not need to

Protective Detail know that they were not making targets out of all those
children by keeping them in that room with Bush?...

The MSM Box Set
Patricia Goldsmith, www.dissidentvoice.org
Spin cycles are supposed to last little longer than 24 hours, especially
when it’s bad news for Bush & Co. That is, perhaps, one reason why the
Downing Street Memos (DSM) are causing such consternation in journalistic
circles. A recent column by Newsday editorialist James Klurfeld, “Downing
St. memos: Been there, knew that” (6-24-05), is of particular interest to
me, since I live on Long Island, and because it is a fascinating window
into the thought pr! ocesses of an influential member of the Mainstream
Media (MSM), a man who plays an important role in creating storylines about
George Bush. The entire interest of the piece is in watching Klurfeld frame
the issues, beginning with his opening shot: “Somebody needs to explain to
me all this furor over the Downing Street memos” -- from which I conclude
that he’s furious...

On July 4th – Independence for Iraq
Aaron Glantz, CommonDreams.org
As the United States celebrated its independence this weekend, Iraq
celebrated another week under foreign occupation. So I thought it useful to
look at Thomas Jefferson’s case against England’s King George III and
compare it with the Iraqi case against our own President George II. Below
are some of the complaints levelled against King George III on England on
July 4, 1776. “For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us". The
United States m! ilitary has quartered 138,000 troops in Iraq for more than
two years and refuses to set a time line for withdrawl...

We Are All Responsible
Bud McClure, CommonDreams.org
...But ultimately we are all to blame, even those of us who have opposed
this war from the beginning. No matter how much we might want to deny our
culpability there are those moments when we awaken in the middle of the
night because the truth sneaks up on us and reveals that something has gone
terribly wrong. In these troubled moments we catch a glimpse of our own
dark underbelly, of what we have become: a country largely indifferent to
human suffering, driven ! by competition and greed, and willing to sanction
others to torture, terrorize and murder in our names to preserve our
consumptive way of life. We all share a responsibility for this...

Mom, Who Lost Son In Iraq, Talks About 'Disgusting' White House Private
Meeting With Bush
Greg Szymanski
...Although Sheehan was opposed to the illegal nature of the war from the
outset, it wasn’t until January that she began to become politically
active. Besides speaking at rallies and becoming known in Washington for
her outspoken criticism of Bush, Sheehan formed a group called Gold Star
Families For Peace, joining together families who lost loved ones in an
effort to expose the illegal nature of the war and t! o hasten the return
of troops still fighting in Iraq. Her involvement with the anti-war
movement also led her recently to join forces with the After Downing Street
movement, a civic, political and activist group seeking to open a
Presidential impeachment inquiry based on the release of damaging British
intelligence documents showing Bush doctored WMD intelligence reports to
justify his war policy....

Karl Rove: More anti-American Than Osama bin Laden or, They Execute
Traitors, Don't They?
Ted Rall
...Title 18, Part I, Chapter 115, paragraph 2381 of the United States Code
reads: Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against
them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the
United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or
shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but
not less than $10,000; and shall be incapa! ble of holding any office under
the United States. Reads a lot like the definition of someone who unmasks a
CIA operative (Valerie Plame) for rank political gain, doesn't it? Of
course, if this is true, odds are that this goes straight to the top, to
Piehole his own self. Can you really buy Rove acting without
authorization?...
