Do you think it possible that AIPAC was caught assisting Israel in
betraying American spy networks in Iran?
Xymphora
... I'm obviously just guessing, but my guess tracks the cover story
printed in the Jerusalem Post, that the information in the 'entrapment'
related to the lives of Israeli spies in Kurdistan (a cover story important
enough that they decided to admit they had agents in Kurdistan, something
they had previously denied). If this is indeed a spy story, Iran is the
most likely country being spied upon, ! particularly as both Israel and the
United States want to know where to bomb. Betraying an American spy network
in a country considered to be a real enemy would be a Pollard-type crime,
and at a Pollard-level of importance. It would be enough to get AIPAC into
some serious trouble. Does Israel already own the United States to the
extent it can pull AIPAC out of trouble?...

Western Propaganda Media try to shut down albasrah.net!
By the al-Basrah Network.
Once again the propaganda media have begun to spew stupid accusations
against al-Basrah, the true aim of which is to smother the voice of Iraqi
people and silence one of the few sources of information on the
unprecedented massacres that are taking place inside occupied Iraq in the
name of "international law." The American MSNBC network has accused
al-Basrah of propagandizing the terrorism of az-Zarqawi and preaching
anti-Semitism an! d hate towards the west. The goal behind this slander is
to close down the albasrah.net website. For our part, we reject this
erroneous claim for one simple reason: the al-Basrah Network is not taken
in by the fairy tale pushed by the American and British invaders that the
phantom that they call az-Zarqawi hovers over every part of Iraq and that
it is he who resists the invaders...

Fayetteville Ripples Spread Across America
Bring Them Home Now!
...That slogan (Support the troops) has been eating at me. I've seen lots
of people who have yellow ribbons on the back of their car, and I try to
talk to them. The one thing that you can do to support me and the troops is
to listen to our voice, and most people who have the mentality support our
troops don't want to hear what we have to say about ending the war. They
think that supporting the troops is supporting the war, and it should be
the opposi! te. Support President Bush and our troops? That's a conflicting
statement. If you're supporting Bush, then you're not supporting our
troops. And if you support our troops, you don't support Bush...

Steven "Pinocchio" Plaut: A Zionist in Need of Serious Therapy
Kurt Nimmo, Another Day in the Empire
It is comforting to read articles by Juan Cole and Justin Raimondo taking
the Zionist economics professor and vicious crank Steven Plaut to task for
his lies and hateful fabrications. Plaut has attempted to roast me on
several occasions, basing his observations of my articles and blog entries
on lies and the most fantastic of fabrications crossing over from honest
criticism into character assassination, libel, and! defamation. For some
reason—probably because he is also vicious and unethical—David Horowitz has
found it appropriate to post Plaut's lies about me on at least two
occasions. As an example of Plaut's complete lack of regard for truth and
fair play, he wrote the following: Bashar Assad and his Ba'athists can at
least count on some devoted friends, namely the columnists at Counterpunch
magazine. One of the regular columnists at Counterpunch, Kurt Nimmo, an
unemployed photographer-wannabe who used to work as a film developer for
Walmart (and blames the neocons for his being unemployed), seems to be
leading the campaign for the anti-American Left to promote the Ba'athist
colonization of Lebanon. He is now a columnist for the Web site of the
Iraqi pro-Saddam Ba'athists, by the way....

Torture Highlights the Ambiguity of "Support the Troops"
Rowan Wolf , Project for the Old American Century
...I am firmly convinced that the Bush Administration does encourage and
condone the abuse and torture of prisoners. I am also convinced that the
troops involved in these activities wre acting under orders, or the tacit
approval of the entire chain of command. Thus far, what responsibility that
is to be found is pushed far down that chain of command. Therefore, there
is no accountability and there are conti! nued lies. However, that does not
make troops unaccountable for their actions...

Tinkers, tailors, soldiers, spies on the desert dune
Luciana Bohne, Online Journal Contributing Writer
...First one has to determine the target. Most people, accepting the theory
that this incident was no accident, seem to think the target was Sgrena.
But she writes for a paper that prints 20,000 copies at most, and, though
one of the most reliable in Italy for opinion and news, it is hardly worth
worrying about. What she knows about Fallujah is already well known among
her readership. However, I'm willing to con! sider that the abduction and
what she may have seen, and has not yet processed, may make her dangerous.
She has already noted that the woman who took care of her during her
imprisonment spoke only English and French to the two kidnappers and that
one of two of her very devout Muslim kidnappers unexpectedly shook her hand
as she was about to leave. The other was a fan of the Italian soccer team
that wore T-shirts imprinted with "Free Giuliana" during a game...

If Iraq is stabilizing and improving, why isn't the media documenting it?
Stan Moore
"The U.S. government continues to claim that there is good news in Iraq.
The Iraqis, they say, are self-governing, with their own improved security
forces and things are getting better. Why are not the journalists of
America and the world prowling the streets of Fallujah and Tikrit and Basra
and showing the commerce and the oil production and the lives of ordinary
Iraqis? If Iraq is back to normal, or getting better and safer, ! why
cannot we see it on our television screens...

Is no one accountable?
Bob Herbert, New York Times
...Arkan Mohammed Ali is a 26-year-old Iraqi who was detained by the U.S.
military for nearly a year at various locations, including the infamous Abu
Ghraib prison. According to a lawsuit filed against Defense Secretary
Donald Rumsfeld, Mr. Ali was at times beaten into unconsciousness during
interrogations. He was stabbed, shocked with an electrical device, urinated
on and kept locked - hooded and naked - in a wooden, coffinlike box. He
said he was told by his ca! ptors that soldiers could kill detainees with
impunity...

Words of war: Iraq and the rise of "Neoconzo" Journalism
Stephen Smith, Electronic Iraq
...Strauss acts as a major influence on the neocons. To the extent that the
legions of neoconzo scribes are fans of Strauss, they would see a necessity
to deceive their own public. As Shadia Drury points out in a comment on her
book Leo Strauss and the American Right: "Perpetual deception of the
citizens by those in power is critical [in Strauss's view] because they
need to be led, and they need strong rulers to tell th! em what's good for
them. Thus the rank and file should know better than to question the wisdom
of "history's actors". The ends justify the means -- even lies. Those in
control will only ever be a tiny faction with no obligation to those
outside the cabal. To them, world public opinion (eg. against the war in
Iraq) is itself under suspicion...

Sgrena Sets the Record Straight
"There was No Checkpoint; No Self-Defense"
JEREMY SCAHILL, CounterPunch
...This case has been written off by US officials as a "horrific accident"
that occurred on what we are told is "the most dangerous road in Iraq,"
where insurgents are constantly waiting in the bushes to attack. The
Pentagon further contends that the Italians failed to slow down at a
checkpoint and only after repeated attempts to stop the car did soldiers
fire on the Italians. The problem is, accord! ing to Sgrena, this shooting
didn't happen on that road. What's more, Sgrena says that there was no US
checkpoint for which to slow down...

Military Pollution:
The Quintessential Universal Soldier
Lucinda Marshall, CommonDreams.org
...But U.S. military personnel are of course not the only victims of
depleted uranium. Many returning soldiers brought it home to their families
as well. Wives and girlfriends have been contaminated through sperm,
causing a variety of gynecological problems, including cancer and the need
for hysterectomies. Children born to Gulf Veterans have a much higher than
normal incidence of birth defects, cancer a! nd other diseases. And of
course, the same problems that have plagued our own citizens have also
taken place in the countries where depleted uranium has been used,
including the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq. In Basra, Iraq, cancer rates
have leapt from 11/100,000 in 1988 to 123/100,000 in 2002. Cancer in
children under the age of fifteen has tripled at the Basra Maternity and
Children's hospital since 1990...

Iraq Official Discourages Demonstrations

government takes over, said the protest was among "attempts to destabilize

concentrations of US troops in the industrial zone and al-'Askari
neighborhood of al-Fallujah on Sunday. The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent
in the city reported that the Resistance fired a Grad rocket and three
Katyusha ! rockets into US forces in the al-Bahjah School in the al-'Askari
neighborhood of eastern al-Fallujah at about 6:15pm Sunday evening local

US Troops Abuse Prisoners in Mosul
Raed Jarrar, Raed in the Middle
...These documents clearly indicate two points:

1- The Abu Greib Scandal was just the tip of the iceberg: thousands of
prisoners in US jails in Guantanemo, Afghanistan and Iraq are being
tortured in the same systematic way. This torture is a clear violation of
human rights, condemned even by the closest allies to the bush
administration such as Britain and other EU countries. 2- The revealing of
these new documents proves that the international press does not, and even
cannot, report every case of abuse of human rights in Iraq and other
occupied countries. There are other dozens if not hundreds of uncovered
cases. The Bush administration is nothing more than a brutal imperialist
and occupying superpower that doesn't recognize any international law
during and after their illegal wars worldwide.

occupation into a "free-fraud zone," says former CPA senior adviser
Franklin Willis. After the fall of Baghdad, there was no Iraqi law because
Saddam Hussein's regime was dead. But if no U.S. law applied either, then
everything was permissible, says Willis. The former CPA official compares
Iraq to the "Wild West," saying he delivered one $2 million —payment to

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Saturday, 26 March 2005
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The

...In a dispatch posted at 5:10pm Saturday afternoon Mecca time, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that a source in the Iraqi puppet army had reported that
American forces discovered a tunnel leading out of US prison camp Bucca
near the town of Umm Qasr in southern Iraq. Camp Bucca is the second
largest American prison camp in Iraq, after the notorious Abu Ghurayb cam!
p west of Baghdad. The correspondent reported a lieutenant colonel in the
Iraqi puppet army as saying that the Americans on Saturday found a tunnel,
hundreds of meters long and 1.25 meters in diameter, dug by prisoners in
Camp Bucca. The tunnel linked the inside of the prison with the outside
world. The source said that a large number of prisoners were able to escape
through the tunnel to freedom...
