Facts about Iraq you wouldn't know from Western media
PHILLIP KNIGHTLEY (ONE MAN'S VIEW)
...The response of the US has been to launch a $10,000,000 Iraq Women's
Democracy initiative. The aim, according to the State Department, is to
"give Iraqi women the tools, information and expertise they need to run for
office in the forthcoming elections and lobby for fair treatment". Where
have you read that the money will be given mainly to organisations
"embedded" with the Americans such as the Independent Women's Forum? !
Where have you read that the IWF was founded by Dick Cheney's wife, Lynn,
and how patronising it is to suggest that Iraqi needed this sort of
information when Iraqi women were actively involved in public life even
under the Ottoman empire?...

Falluja è "inabitabile"
Kurt Nimmo, Peacelink
rimosso dall'esercito straniero? ...

The following day, the story was also published in the Iranian daily

Analysis: Iraq's new war
Richard Sale, UPI Terrorism Correspondent
...A consensus is emerging among U.S. intelligence officials that while
Islamic jihadi fighters play a part in suicide bombings and harassment of
U.S. troops, the driving force of the insurgency belongs to remnants of
Saddam Hussein's deposed regime (...) According to the U.S. military, there
are about 11,000 to 20,000 insurgents spread throughout Iraq, the New York
Times reported. But a former senior CIA official said that a network that
could nu! mber as high as 100,000 is supporting this group. "The problem
is, this number is growing," he added...

US to Take Bigger Bite of Iraq's Economic Pie
'Helping' Govt Cut Social Subsidies, Give US Corporations Full Access to
Iraqi Oil
Emad Mekay
The United States is helping the interim Iraqi government continue to make
major economic changes, including cuts to social subsidies, full access for
U.S. companies to the nation's oil reserves and reconsideration of oil
deals that the previous regime signed with France and Russia. During a
visit here this week, officials of the U.S.-backed administration !
detailed some of the economic moves planned for Iraq, many of them
appearing to give U.S. corporations greater reach into the occupied
nation's economy...

Justice For Fallujah's Refugees Update
Voices in the Wilderness UK, Electronic Iraq
According to figures compiled by the International Organisation on
Migration (IOM) more than 200,000 refugees from Fallujah have yet to return
and 'many are in desperate need of aid, with temperatures in Iraq heading
towards freezing' (Reuters, 2 Dec). If and when they do return to their
devastated city they will have their finger prints taken, their retinas
scanned, be forced to wear special ID badges, and possibly be dragooned i!
nto 'work battalions' to clear the rubble created by the US assault. We in
the anti-war movement must try to highlight the plight of the Fallujah
refugees: protesting against the Orwellian plans to turn Fallujah into a
"model city" and demanding housing and compensation for the homeless and
bereaved and war crimes prosecutions for Bush and Blair...

IAMS Warns of Conspiracy Against Iraq's Unity
IslamOnline.net
The International Association of Muslim Scholars (IAMS) has warned of a
"conspiracy" being concocted by the US occupation against Iraq's national
unity. Denouncing the deadly bombings that rocked the holy Shiite cities of
Najaf and Karbala last week, the IAMS urged Iraq's Sunnis and Shiites to
stand united in the face of this "conspiracy which is aimed at disrupting
the Iraqi social fabric"...

Iraqi Christians Forgo Christmas Joy
Samir Haddad, IOL Correspondent
Thousands of Iraqi Christians forwent the joy of celebrating the birth of
Jesus partly over deteriorating security in the country and partly in
solidarity with fellow grief-stricken Muslims (...) "This decision was also
taken in solidarity with our Muslim brothers, who failed to celebrate `Eid
Al-Fitr with their loved ones and relatives and with our Christian brothers
whose churches had been bombed in Baghdad and Mosul," read the statement.
It ! further made clear that Iraqi Christians should not be placed in one
basket with the foreign occupation authorities because of their religion...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Friday, 24 December 2004
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The
Free Arab Voice.
In another of their many crimes reminiscent of those committed by the
Mongols when they sacked Baghdad some 800 years ago, US forces invaded and
burned down the Islamic Teaching Library in al-Fallujah on Thursday, a
facility over 500 years old belonging to Shaykh Husayn 'Awdah, one of the
most famous imams and preachers in al-Fallujah in former times. Cleanin! g
personnel who witnessed the outrage told Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Fallujah
that five US occupation troops entered the library in the ar-Rawi Mosque.
They barbarously ripped the books off the shelves, threw them all in a
pile, poured gasoline on them and set them ablaze...

U.S. forces kill Sunni scholar in Iraq, clerics say
Reuters, AlterNet
U.S. forces shot and killed a Sunni Muslim cleric during a raid on his
Baghdad home, an influential group of Iraqi clerics said on Saturday and
warned that the incident will fuel anger against the United States. But the
U.S. military said it was unaware of the incident. The Muslim Clerics'
Association said the killing on Friday of Sheikh Mowaffak al-Douri,
preacher of Baghdad's Abi Bakr al-Siddiq Mosque and a member of the group,
was the latest! in a series of attacks on Iraqi mosques and clerics...

Mosul attack 'an inside job'
Syed Saleem Shahzad
The deadly suicide attack on a US military base in Mosul this week was an
"inside job" carried out by insurgents who are part of the Iraqi armed
forces, Asia Times Online has been told. Sources said a strong nexus
between Iraqi forces and the resistance is what allowed them to carry out
the most devastating attack on US troops since the beginning of the
invasion...

US Relief Group Calls for Iraq Withdrawal
Jim Lobe, Antiwar.com
One of the oldest U.S. overseas relief organizations has called for the
United States to immediately withdraw from Iraq in light of the continuing
carnage and Washington's failure to restore basic services or revive the
country's economy. The statement by the Philadelphia-based American Friends
Service Committee (AFSC) came a day after U.S. forces suffered their worst
losses from a single incident in Iraq when an apparent suicide bomber blew
himself ! up at U.S. military base in Mosul, killing at least 22 people,
including 14 U.S. soldiers and four U.S. contractors...

U.S. Army historian cites lack of Iraq post-war plan
Reuters
The United States invaded Iraq without a formal plan for occupying and
stabilizing the country and this continues to undercut the military effort
there, the Washington Post on Saturday quoted a U.S. Army historian as
saying. The newspaper quoted Maj. Isaiah Wilson, an official historian of
the Iraq campaign, as saying the overall performance of the U.S. Army in
Iraq has been "mediocre" and it failed to recognize it is engaged in a
"people's war."...

Christmas Eve of Destruction
Maureen Dowd, The New York Times
In Iraq, as Yogi Berra would say, the future ain't what it used to be. Now
that the election's over, our leaders think it's safe to experiment with a
little candor. President Bush has finally acknowledged that the Iraqis
can't hack it as far as securing their own country, which means, of course,
that America has no exit strategy for its troops, who will soon number
150,000...

France should recognize, back and help the Iraqi Resistence
By Behnam Keryo/ PhD. a former diplomat - Professor of International
Relations. Al-Moharer
Yes Mr. Jacques Chirac France sould invest into the future. France, this
great country ferociously jealous of its defended independence throughout
history, must recognize, back and even help the Iraqi resistance. No one
can be fooled any more, the US can't possibly win this war in Iraq. They
have even lost it all from the very first day. You know it Mr. Chirac and!
your intelligence services know it as well. The US is bled to death in
Iraq. It controls absolutely nothing in this country...

When Will We Ever Learn?
David Krieger, CommonDreams.org
...The Vietnam War ended when the people of the United States had enough
and withdrew their support for the war. Gradually that is happening now,
but the people of the United States want to believe their leaders when they
say that the war is progressing. We are living in the bubble of a myth. The
media has a critical responsibility for reporting on the war as it is so
that the American people can make an informed choice about continuing to
send their sons a! nd daughters to die in the cities and on the roadways of
Iraq...

"Saddam Hussein the Fighter, the Thinker and the Man"
Part II CHAPTER 14: The Theory of Multi-Polarization
Amir Iskander, Al-Moharer
...Saddam Hussein does not regard the patch of land on which he stands in
Iraq as being the ultimate hope of struggle, since it is only part of a
larger piece of land, namely the entire Arab world. Hence, the Iraqi people
are again only part of a larger people now numbering more than 150 million.
"Division is unnatural, and must end in unity (3)."...

US may strike at Ba'athists in Syria
JANINE ZACHARIA, The Jerusalem Post

kill or capture Iraqi Ba'athists who, it believes, are directing at least
part of the attacks against US targets in Iraq, a senior administration
official told The Jerusalem Post.

Best Scenario for Iraq: Get Out Now
Kurt Nimmo
...America will "lose" Iraq the same way it "lost" Vietnam. Helicopters
will be ferrying stooges and "U.S. dependents" from the Green Zone in much
the same way the U.S. evacuated people from the embassy in Saigon (i.e.,
"Operation Frequent Wind") in 1975. Allawi or his successor will, as did
South Vietnamese President Duong Van Minh nearly a quarter century ago,
unconditionally surrender to the Iraqi resistance. Reality will dictate,
the illusions of Bushzarro world ! will crumble, and the United States will
retreat with tail tucked between its legs, as it did in Vietnam...

No peace on Earth during unjust war
ANDREW GREELEY
One reads in the papers that the Pentagon expects the war in Iraq to
continue till 2010. Donald Rumsfeld will not guarantee that it will be over
by 2009. How many dead and maimed Americans by then? How many sad
obituaries? How many full pages in the papers with pictures of all the
casualties? Why? The reasons change: weapons of mass destruction, war on
terror, freedom and democracy for the people of Iraq, American credibility.
All are deceptions. This cockamamie ! and criminally immoral war was
planned before the Sept. 11 attack in which Iraq was not involved...

Disinformation as Policy
Rummy's Quagmire of Lies
MIKE WHITNEY, CounterPunch
...It's clear that Rumsfeld and Co. would like to persuade the public that
the 22 deaths were the result of a terrorist bomb. What else could they
say; that Americans were killed needlessly by a national liberation
movement trying to expel US forces from Iraq? The Bush administration's
last vestige of credibility depends on their ability to convince the public
that Iraq is the heart of a nebulous war on terror. It's not, but we! can
expect that the military will continue to create a narrative that supports
that theory...
