World says no to Bush attack on Falluja
John Catalinotto
President George W. Bush can't set foot in a foreign capital without
thousands of people coming into the streets to confront him. And the brutal
assault on Falluja, Iraq, has doubled worldwide anger. Even when Bush stays
in Washington, D.C., or Texas, people around the world look for occasions
to target the U.S. president and his war policies...

A public humiliation to U.S. imperialism
Sara Flounders, WWP
...From Iraq three weeks before the U.S. invasion began, I reported in the
pages of Workers World newspaper about the public training of the entire
Iraqi adult population--both men and women--in urban warfare tactics. It
was no secret. Weapons, ammunition and months of food supplies were
publicly distributed to the entire population. Images of the heroic
Palestinian resistance reminded the Iraqis that it is possible for a whole
people to resist for more! than 50 years against overwhelming force...

Di questi tempi, l'anno scorso
Dahr Jamail, Osservatorio Iraq
Noi siamo rifugiati senza casa". E aggiunge "Adesso a sei anni
svilupperanno l'odio per gli americani. Adesso le donne di 70 anni dicono:
Dio maledica gli americani!"...

Failure after Falluja?
Ivan Eland
The U.S. military ãvictoryä in Falluja is unlikely to change the dismal
course of the guerilla war in Iraq. Military history has repeatedly shown
why the cliché ãwinning the battle and losing the warä has crept into
popular culture. Moreover, winning back Falluja the way the U.S. did is
likely to be a sure prescription for military defeat in the wider Iraq
war...

"Saddam Hussein the Fighter, the Thinker and the Man"
CHAPTER 11 The National Front: A Strategy Objective
Amir Iskander, Al-Moharer
..."All progressive forces are called upon to be aware of their
responsibilities in this delicate stage in the life of our people and our
nation, and to make a serious contribution to defending the Revolution and
maintaining its progressive path by active participation in bearing the
burden of responsibility. In following this route, the Revolution will not
take off from positio! ns of weakness, but intends to confirm its belief in
the need to have wider mass- participation in pushing the wheels of the
revolution forward." With these phrases, Saddam Hussein was loyal to the
political line decided upon in the Ninth Congress of the Arab Baath
Socialist Party held in February 1968, before the Revolution took place...

How to Market a Siege
The US Media and Fallujah
MIKE WHITNEY, CounterPunch
Two weeks before the invasion of Falluja a car bomb was set off in front of
the Al Arabiyya news facility in downtown Baghdad; 7 people were killed.
The evening news dismissed the incident as a warning by insurgents to the
Arab news channel to change the "pro-occupation" tone of their coverage.
Obviously, insurgents had nothing to do with the bombing. It was a
"gangland-style hit" intended to put fear in the hearts of the Al Arab!
iyya reporters who would soon be covering the siege of Falluja...

ãTen Vietnamsä and the Iraqi Force Strength Debate
Randall Risener
... Now letâs not be mistaken here, prior to the war many predicted
guerrilla warfare. But those concerns were simply ballyhooed by the powers
that be and the media. It was if they had never read about the British
occupation of Iraq after WWI and never studied the experiences of the
French in Algiers or the Israelis in their occupation of Southern Lebanon
in the 1980âs. The signs that the Iraqi defense structure did not
capitulate but, rather, w! ent underground are fairly abundant from the
arms caches being found to the overall strategy of resistance...

Ultra-Modern Public Services
Raed Jarrar, Raed in the Middle
For those who say that the occupation of Iraq didn't come up with brand-new
infrastructure facilities to the liberated Iraqi people, for those who
whine all the day and night about the lack of public services of Iraq after
20 months of occupation, for those who believe in avant-garde solutions for
new trends in supplying Iraqi houses with Oil, ehhmmm, directly...... I
have good news for you! When I visited Az-Zubair town (near Basrah) last
year, people ! didn't even have water or electricity. Now, they have crude
oil all over the streets!...

ãWe are living a disaster.ä
Dahr Jamail's Iraq Dispatches
...ãWe are living a disaster,ä says Abu Abdulla, an unemployed engineer at
a kebob stand today near the so-called green zone, ãThe price for benzene
is 10 times now what it was on the black market, but there are 10 times
less jobs and who is making 10 times as much money?ä Another man drinking
chai nearby immediately starts talking about the resistance. ãThey think
destroying Fallujah will stop the resistance? We already see the resistance
spreading everyw! here now,ä he says, his cigarette waving about in the
air, ãEven if they bomb every city in Iraq, the resistance will continue to
spreadä...

Left Hook Exclusive: An Interview with an Anti-war Veteran from the Iraq
War Jim Talib HM3 (FMF/PJ) interviewed by Derek Seidman
Left Hook
...I was witness to the detention and mistreatment of civilians, there were
several incidents of people in my Battalion shooting civilians, but things
like that shouldn't really surprise anyone with all the detailed coverage
of Abu Ghuraib and the recent incursions into Fallujah. Some of it was
investigated, but most of the time it was just ignored. That kind of stuff
was just! so common, though not always as sensational or as well documented
as the abuse at Abu Ghuraib...

ACT NOW! Lobby your MP over Fallujah napalm
Black Information Link, UK
US FORCES used outlawed naplam in the Iraqi town of Fallujah according to
weekend reports. Demand answers from your MP and Tony Blair here. The use
of deadly napalm - last seen in Vietnam and now banned by the United
Nations - has been deployed in Fallujah according to eyewitnesses. 'Melted'
bodies have been reported, along with suggestions of poisonous gas. MP
Alice Mahon is calling on Blair to make an emergency statement on the
matter.

Tired in Baghdad...
Baghdad Burning, Girl Blog from Iraq...
The situation in Falloojeh is worse than anyone can possibly describe. It
has turned into one of those cities you see in your darkest nightmares-
broken streets strewn with corpses, crumbling houses and fallen mosques...
The worst part is that for the last couple of weeks we've been hearing
about the use of chemical weapons inside Falloojeh by the Americans. Today
we heard that the delegation from the Iraqi Ministry of Health isn't being
allowed into the! city, for some reason...

Which War Is This Anyway?
Tom Engelhardt
... Much of this was known, at least to some degree at the time (and some
reported in press accounts), and yet the Afghans remained "freedom
fighters" and a resistance movement, even after the Afghan jihad began to
slip across the other Pakistani border into Indian Kashmir. What changed?
What made these people, in our press, "terrorists." The answer is, of
course, that we became their prime enemy and target (...) Similarly, our
man of the moment in Baghdad, Prime Minister! Iyad Allawi, was not so long
ago a CIA-directed "terrorist," as the New York Times reported on its front
page (to no effect whatsoever). In the early 1990s, the exile organization
Allawi ran, the Iraq National Accord, evidently planted car bombs and
explosive devices for the CIA in the Iraqi capital (including in a movie
theater) in an attempt to destabilize Saddam Hussein's regime...

Lost on the last mile
Abid Ullah Jan, Media Monitors Network
It does not need much wisdom and in-depth research to prove that the US
would lose on the last mile not only in Iraq but on every inch that it
wants to dominate outside Iraq. The New York Times has already invested a
lot of wisdom and completed indepth research and analysis in this regard at
a great cost...

Shadow of Vietnam Falls Over Iraq River Raids
JOHN F. BURNS, New York Times
As marines aboard fast patrol boats roared up the Euphrates on a dawn raid
on Sunday, images pressed in of another American war where troops moved up
wide rivers on camouflaged boats, with machine-gunners nervously scanning
riverbanks for the hidden enemy. That war is rarely mentioned among the
American troops in Iraq, many of whom were not yet born when the last
American combat units withdrew from Vietnam more than 30 years ago. A war
t! hat America did not win is considered a bad talisman among those men and
women, who privately admit to fears that this war could be lost...

CHALLENGES THE SILENCE
TvNewsLIES.org
Has the opposition been permanently muted? Do we just sit back and watch
the endless war go on? Do we pretend it is no longer our concern? Do we
become one with the warmongers? Do we watch in silence as Death rides
unfettered through the streets of Iraq? Or do we start asking the questions
that no one has answered?...

FALLUJAH NAPALMED
US uses banned weapon ..but was Tony Blair told?
Paul Gilfeather, Sunday Mirror
US troops are secretly using outlawed napalm gas to wipe out remaining
insurgents in and around Fallujah. News that President George W. Bush has
sanctioned the use of napalm, a deadly cocktail of polystyrene and jet fuel
banned by the United Nations in 1980, will stun governments around the
world. And last night Tony Blair was dragged into the row as furious Labour
MPs demanded he face the Commons over it. Repor! ts claim that innocent
civilians have died in napalm attacks, which turn victims into human
fireballs as the gel bonds flames to flesh...

Group to file war crime charges against US
Aljazeera.net
A US advocacy group is preparing to launch a war crimes case in Germany
against senior US administration officials for their alleged role in
torture at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. "German law in this area is leading
the world," Peter Weiss, vice president of the New York-based Center for
Constitutional Rights (CCR), a human rights group, was quoted as saying in
Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper's on Tuesday...
