Statement by the Iraqi National Foundation Congress on the Elections
Iraqi National Foundation Congres
With reference to the 27th October 2004 statement by the Iraqi National
Foundation Congress on the 'elections intended for next year, in which were
listed the necessary requirements for it to be free and fair; and due the
absence of any positive response from the relevant bodies regarding those
objective requirements: We declare our boycott of these elections, since it
will not express the will of our peo ple and its just demands for
independence and sovereignty, through it being conducted on the bases
dictated by the order governing the administration of the state in the
transition phase, which has been rejected by all political, religious and
independent authorities for the grave dangers it implies to the future of
Iraq, its sovereignty and territorial integrity...

"A Baghdad indignazione e sostegno alla resistenza". Intervista con Dahr Jamail
Democracy Now! - Osservatorio Iraq

Special Report on the Trial of President Saddam Hussein - November Update
by
Dr. Curtis F.J. Doebbler,
member of the Legal Team representing Saddam Hussein
The United States government and their Interim Iraqi government that it
installed in Baghdad continues to refuse access to former Iraqi President
in violation of his due process rights under international, Iraqi, and
United States law. To challenge the illegality of these actions, an
Application for Habeas Corpus has been filed with the United States S
upreme Court by the former President. This filing alleges that the United
States is violating its own Constitution as well as it military law and
international law. The filing recognizes that the United States aggression
against the people of Iraq is illegal and that the occupation is illegal.
It focuses, however, on the illegality of the treatment being provided the
former President...

The Road to Abu Gharib: Paved With the Legal Opinion of Alberto R. Gonzales
Michael Ratner, CommonDreams.org
...Yet, here he was, Alberto R. Gonzales, the President's Counsel,
nominated to be the Attorney General of the United States. Here was a man
who should have been legally, politically and ethically ostracized after
the leak of his January 25th, 2002 memorandum, smiling before the cameras.
The Gonzalez Memorandum paved the road to the abuses and tortures of
Guantanamo and Abu Gharib: it still is shocking to r ead...

The Fallujah Battle
Ikram Sehgal
Even with the US troops in the center of Fallujah, the resistance continued
unabated with the forward lines ebbing back and forth. One helicopter was
shot down in the first house, two later just outside Fallujah (...) In the
initial stages the battle had developed well for the US and Iraqi forces
but because they failed to decimate the insurgent force within 2-3 days as
planned, there is continuing bloody resistance in pockets. Failure to
subdue Fallujah completely will make it a c ontinuing symbol of mass Iraqi
resistance to US presence in the country...

Horrific scenes from the ashes of Fallujah
James Cogan, WSWS
Fallujah has been laid waste. It is a hell on earth of shattered bodies,
shattered buildings and the stench of death. The city will enter history as
the place where US imperialism carried out a crime of immense proportions
in November 2004. The US military has no idea how many Iraqis—combatants
and noncombatants—have been killed by the thousands of tons of explosives
and bullets it has unleashed on the city...

Chi ha ucciso Margaret Hassan
Robert Fisk
anglo-americana. E quindi chi ha ucciso Margaret Hassan?

Bush-Terror, The 'Supreme International Crime'
Ghali Hassan
Since the Bush Administration took power in 2001, the world have witnessed
a cabal of extremists and fanatics wreaking havoc on defenseless nations
such as Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan in complete violations of
international law, international organizations, and justice. They are
destroying not only the international system for peace and justice, but
progressive legislations in the United States. The destruction of Iraq
continues with total disregard f or international law. "The crime
hereinafter set out are punishable as crimes under international law:
wanton destruction of cities, towns, or villages, or destruction not
justified by military necessity" (Nuremberg convention Principle VI,
1945)...

Media Repression in "Liberated" Land
Dahr Jamail, www.dissidentvoice.org
Journalists are increasingly being detained and threatened by the
U.S.-installed interim government in Iraq. Media have been stopped
particularly from covering recent horrific events in Fallujah. The "100
Orders" penned by former U.S. administrator in Iraq L. Paul Bremer include
Order 65 passed March 20 to establish an Iraqi communications and media
commission. This commission has powers to control the media because it has
complete control ov er licensing and regulating telecommunications,
broadcasting, information services and all other media establishments...

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Wednesday, 17 November 2004
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The
Free Arab Voice.
...An Iraqi doctor accused the US forces in al-Fallujah of using chemical
weapons against the city. Speaking on the radio program Panorama FM at
midday Wednesday, the doctor said that he had examined two bodies of Iraqis
killed by the Americans using internationally prohibited chemical weapons.
Mafkarat al-Islam reported the doctor as saying that the bodies had no
gunshot or shrapnel wounds, nor any sign of blunt force trauma. Mafkarat
al-Islam had earlier reported on the Americans' use of chemical agents in
al-Fallujah on 11 November, but at that time the extent of the damaged they
caused was diminished by a rainstorm...

"I Got My Kills. I'm Coming Down. I Just Love My Job."
Iraq War as Video Game
BRIAN CLOUGHLEY
...Hideous things are happening in Iraq in the name of Bush 'freedom' and
Bush 'liberation' and Bush 'democracy'. We know about a few of them because
someone with a conscience was on the spot when some atrocities were
committed. These are war crimes, but they will never be punished, because
conquerors always escape justice. The terrifying but only too believable
thing is the attitude of marines who justify the a ction of the animal who
murdered the wounded Iraqi. There is no question of shame and no evidence
of even a spark of humanity...

A Voluntary Tic in Media Coverage of Iraq
Norman Solomon, CommonDreams.org
When misleading buzzwords become part of the media landscape, they slant
news coverage and skew public perceptions. That's the story with the phrase
"Iraqi forces" -- now in routine use by U.S. media outlets, including the
country's most influential newspapers. The New York Times and the
Washington Post have been leading the way in news stories that apply the
indigenous "Iraqi forces" label to Iraqi fighters who are pro-U.S.-o
ccupation ... but not to Iraqi fighters who are anti-U.S.-occupation...

Media Cover-up of US War Crimes in Iraq
Michel Chossudovsky, www.globalresearch.ca
...The video of the shooting has been aired on network television in the US
and around the World. The report conveys the impression that this is an
"isolated occurrence", that it does not in any way reflect the practices of
the US military in Iraq. The shooting is said to have followed an incident
where "a marine in the same unit had been killed just a day earlier when he
tended to the booby-trapped dead body of an insurgent." Ackno wledging and
investigating this single event of an innocent wounded war prisoner is part
of the propaganda campaign. It conveys the impression that nobody else is
being arbitrarily shot, at point blank range, that the Marines are
subjected to a strict code of conduct and that POWs are treated humanely
according to the Geneva Convention...

Escape from Fallujah: refugees flood nearby towns
Kim Sengupta , The Independent
While United States forces mount the final military operations to pacify
Fallujah, the people of the devastated city have taken refuge in outlying
towns, many of them huddled in misery, without adequate food, water,
medicine and shelter. More than 80 per cent of the population of 300,000
are living in nearby towns or in Baghdad. The US military has barred aid
convoys from Fallujah, insisting they have enough resources to look after
th e remaining civilians. But the few who have ventured to the distribution
centres risk getting caught in crossfire...

Falluja Arithmetic Lesson
Greg Palast, Axis of Logic
...1. If 275 soldiers were wounded in Falluja and 419 are treated for
wounds, how many were shot on the plane ride to Germany?
2. We're told only 275 soldiers were wounded but 419 treated for wounds;
and we're told that 38 soldiers died. So how many will be buried?
3. How long have these Times reporters been embedded with with military?
Bonus question: When will they get out of bed with the military?...

US: Fighting to increase after Falluja
Aljazeera.net
Despite heavy fighting with US-led forces in Falluja, resistance in Iraq is
likely to increase in scope and size in the area, a report distributed to
senior marine and army officers in Iraq says. Marine intelligence officials
issued a report warning that any significant withdrawal of troops from the
Iraqi city of Falluja would strengthen the resistance, the New York Times
said on Thursday...

The Battle for Minds (Forget the Hearts)
Tom Engelhardt and Jonathan Schell, Tom Dispatch
... Both columnists do mention the elections. Bowden says the best hope for
Iraq is "for elections to take place," and Hoagland believes the attack on
Fallujah will "clear the way" for them. Ballot boxes are to spring up in
the tracks of the tanks. Some commentators even refer to "the Sunni
heartland." (As far as I can tell, no one has yet asked how Iraqi "security
moms" will vote.) Meanwhile, the insurgency, failing so far t o learn its
lesson, has opened fronts in other cities, which may soon get the same
treatment as Fallujah. "They made a wasteland and called it peace," Tacitus
famously said. It was left to the United States, champion of freedom, to
update the formula: They made a wasteland and called it democracy...

US 'exaggerated' foreign fighters in Iraq
Aljazeera.net
Washington has exaggerated the number of foreign fighters in Iraq in order
to justify the recent assault on Falluja, an official Syrian daily said on
Thursday. "The question of foreign fighters crossing Iraqi [borders] has
been exaggerated, given that only 24 of the 1000 insurgents captured in
Falluja are foreign," al-Thawra said. A massive US-led assault on Falluja
began 10 days ago with the aim of wresting control of the city from alleged
foreign fighters.. .

Falluja diehards resisting as clashes spread
Aljazeera.net
Resistance fighters in Falluja are continuing to hold out in the face of
massive firepower US forces are unleashing to try and seize overall control
of the city. "Fierce resistance is still raging with rocket-propelled
grenades and machine guns against the US forces stationed on the outskirts
of Falluja," according to Fadil al-Badrani, an Iraqi journalist in the
city...

Mass Slaughter In Fallujah
Doug Lorimer, Green Left Weekly
...Two days before the full-scale US assault began, US warplanes reduced
the Nazzal Emergency Hospital in the centre of the city to rubble. BBC News
reported that witnesses said only the hospital's facade remained. The
deliberate destruction of this hospital was a clear indication that the US
military wants to ensure that dead or injured Fallujah residents are not
brought to the city's hospitals — so as to conceal the scale of civilian
casualties. During t he US military's previous attempt to recapture
Fallujah — in April — Iraqi doctors at the city's hospitals reported that
hundreds of residents, most of them women, children and elderly men, were
being killed by US air strikes, artillery shelling and sniper attacks...
