Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Saturday, 25 September 2004 through
Monday, 27 September 2004
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The
Free Arab Voice
...US forces at 6:30am Sunday morning carried out five waves of raids and
searches storming houses in various places of the al-Karakh district of
Baghdad. The aim of these raids was the arrest of 15 children, the oldest
of whom was 10 and the youngest 6 - a student in the first year of
elementary school. Faruq, Bikr, Ahmad, ! Muhammad, Salman, Haytham, Husayn
- all of the al-Mushahadah, al-Jabbur, and al-'Ani families were treated
like criminals, the local correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported.
Their hands were tied behind their backs, their heads thrust into plastic
bags, despite their cries and protests...

Where is the Delegation for the Hostages in Belmarsh, Camp-X-Ray and
Abu-Ghraib?
Yamin Zakaria, Media Monitors Network
"They came, they burned, they slaughtered, they looted and then left"
-- Ala al-Din al-Juwayni, Muslim Historian died in 1283 CE
Al-Juwayni wrote the memorable sentence in the thirteenth century
describing how the Mongol hordes devastated Baghdad and committed needless
slaughter after the Muslims had surrendered. If the self-belief, unity and
the mindset of the nation remain strong, such defeats will inevitably be
followed by victories. Accordingly, the Mamluk Sultan Baybars of Egypt
decisively defeated the Mongol hordes of Genghis Khan in 1260 at Galilee in
Palestine. This echoed the earlier example of the victory of Sultan
Salahuddin Ayubi over the barbaric crusaders after their initial success.
So, who will stop the barbaric hordes of today reigning down terror in
Baghdad (Fallujah, Abu-Ghraib, Samara and Najaf etc)? These neo-Mongols are
militarily advanced and they conceal their barbarism with a civilised
face...

CIVIL RIGHTS CASUALTY OF WAR IN IRAQ
Bill Gallagher
The agony in Iraq is George W. Bush's medal of dishonor and the notion that
the war there has anything to do with thwarting the terrorism that brought
us the Sept. 11 attacks is beyond folly. Now, Bush can only say he will
stay the course, promising the endless war against insurgents and
indefinite occupation will miraculously transform Iraq into a model
democracy in the Middle East and that the U.S.-imposed civics lesson will
discourage terrorists and make the ! world more peaceful...

Insurgents Are Mostly Iraqis, U.S. Military Says
Mark Mazzetti, Los Angeles Times
The insistence by interim Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi and many U.S.
officials that foreign fighters are streaming into Iraq to battle American
troops runs counter to the U.S. military's own assessment that the Iraqi
insurgency remains primarily a home-grown problem (...) U.S. military
officials said the core of the insurgency in Iraq was — and always had been
— Hussein's fiercest loyalists, who melted into Iraq's urban landsca! pe
when the war began in March 2003. During the succeeding months, they say,
the insurgents' ranks have been bolstered by Iraqis who grew disillusioned
with the U.S. failure to deliver basic services, jobs and reconstruction
projects...

Falluja takes more US hits
Aljazeera.net
At least four people have been killed in the latest US onslaught on the
Iraqi town of Falluja overnight. Ten others were injured on Tuesday as US
warplanes again bombed Falluja, targeting the area of al-Askari and the
industrial neighbourhoods near the main highway east of the city, Iraqi
journalist Husain al-Shammari told Aljazeera. The US military said it had
"conducted a precision strike", destroying a building believed to be the
hideout for followers of al-Qaida-linked! Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. The army
has been at pains to discredit consistent reports from doctors and
residents that women and children have been killed or wounded in repeated
air strikes on Falluja in the recent weeks...

The United States is losing the war in Iraq one war crime at a time
xymphora
From "Incident on Haifa Street" by Tom Engelhardt: "In our ability to let
loose destructive power at great distances and by air, the United States
military is undoubtedly unparalleled as a power today. And yet here's the
counterintuitive way you have to think about American airpower in Iraq:
Watch where the bombs and missiles are falling - starting with Falluja and
ending up on Haifa Street - and you can map almost exactly where Ameri! can
power is blinking off. The use of air power, in other words, is a sign of
American weakness. Its use maps our inability to control Iraq (...) The
United States is losing the war in Iraq one war crime at a time.

`The Media, Losing Their Way`
Jude Wanniski
...If you will remember, I tried to get the senior print reporters to look
into the charge that Saddam had "gassed his own people," and committed
genocide a la Hitler. I've urged them to read the reports of the CIA and
DIA analysts on what happened at Halabja and they would find that Saddam
did not gas the Kurds there. I've also urged them to look into the reports
that Saddam killed between 80,000 (George Shultz) or 200,000 (Kenneth
Pollack of Brookings) or 300,000 (Sen! Pat Roberts, chairman of Senate
intelligence) Kurds in 1988 in the last year of the war with Iran. If there
were a serious attempt to certify these charges, David, you would find
enough material to write a column stating authoritatively that these
assertions were all part of the process to demonize Saddam by the Iraqi
exile crowd, i.e., Ahmed Chalabi and Iyad Allawi, plus the Iraqi Kurds,
Talibani and Barzani, who fought on the Iranian side in the Iran-Iraq war...

The Sword of St Michael
Israel Shamir
...True, the Italians have found themselves in a tight corner. For the
second time in the last sixty years their country has chosen a wrong
partner - two times too many! Sixty years ago, young Italian soldiers went
with Hitler to Stalingrad; today, their sons and grandchildren proceed with
Bush to Baghdad. Still, then as now, a painful duty of an Italian man of
conscience is to wish the speedy victory to the people who shoot at Italian
troops, be it Russian soldiers on Volga ! River or Iraqi resistance
fighters on Euphrates (...) Regarding the Third World War waged in
Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere, it is not enough to be "against
the war" and preach non-violence "to both sides". One has to give full
moral support to the fighters who resist the invader just as the Russians
resisted the German and Italian aggression in WWII...

Roadmap for the Prosecution
Karen Kwiatkowski
Al Lorentz is a reserve Non-Commissioned Officer currently serving in Iraq.
His blazingly clear, succinct article on Iraq has raged over the wires
since it was published on LewRockwell.com. Al, in his civilian life, was an
active member of the Constitution Party in the great state of Texas. He
worked on a ranch, served in the reserves, and when activated, deployed to
Iraq (...) The military chain of command is considering charging Al with
violation of Article 134 for ! making a statement with the intent to
promote disloyalty or disaffection toward the U.S. by any member of the
Armed forces...

Syria, at UN, Says Israel Behind U.S. War on Iraq
Irwin Arieff
Syria on Monday accused Israel of inciting the United States to invade Iraq
to distract attention from its own actions in the region, where it retains
its grip on the Palestinian territories won in a 1967 war. Syrian Foreign
Minister Farouq al-Shara used his country's annual address to the U.N.
General Assembly opening debate to deliver a fierce critique of Israeli
policy, as the Jewish state accused Damascus of "directing terrorism" and
threatened pr! eemptive strikes against militants on its territory...

Victims of a Lie
Thomas M. Braun
I am a Vietnam veteran who served honorably for my country. I was an air
operations supervisor in the US Air Force, and served on Temporary Duty
status at Vietnam's Bien Hoa Air Base and Tan Son Nhut Air Base. I have
great compassion and love for every single military person now serving in
Iraq. I know the horrors they wake up to each day. I was the victim of a
lie. They are victims of a vast lie also...

Mentre in Iraq le cose peggiorano, per noi sempre più bugie
Robert Fisk, Nuovi Mondi Media

disperdersi verso ospedali e centri clinici australiani, giapponesi,
svizzeri.

THE NEW U.S. STRATEGY AFTER THE BATTLE OF NAJAF
Michael Schwartz, ZNet
Since the end of the battle of Najaf, things have become a jumbled mass of
new violent outbreaks and conflicting pronouncements by all sides of the
Iraqi conflict. Hidden in this confusion is an entirely new American
military-political strategy that promises to wreak further havoc in the
cities of Iraq, while shifting dramatically the equation of forces. If the
U.S. succeeds, it will set the stage for a massive military offensive just
after th! e November elections, one which may be magnitudes more brutal
than anything we have seen so far. If the U.S. fails, it could generate the
sort of high profile set-back that ruins Bush's electoral chances and/or
leads to yet another major change in U.S. political-military strategy...

Embedded in a media fantasy world: The case against objective reporting
William Bowles
I recently had a brief exchange with the Washington correspondent for the
Independent, Andrew Buncombe over his 'paper's coverage of events in Iraq.
Now although I've never actually met Andy, and I'm sure he's a decent
fellow, I brought to his attention a recent 'War Report' compiled by an
Iraqi journalist that itemizes the horrors being visited on the Iraqi
people eg, 14 enormous cluster (anti-personnel) bombs each of which c!
ontains 2000 so-called bomblets as well as napalm bombs dropped on the
village of Zaydan, 20km south of al-Fallujah. At least forty-four people
were massacred in the small village...

Dance of the Marionettes
MAUREEN DOWD, NYTimes
...But now the president has his own puppet to play with. All last week in
New York and Washington, Prime Minister Ayad Allawi of Iraq parroted Mr.
Bush's absurd claims that the fighting in Iraq was an essential part of the
U.S. battle against terrorists that started on 9/11, that the neocons'
utopian dream of turning Iraq into a modern democracy was going swimmingly,
and that the worse things got over there, the better they really were...
