Swiss schools win "Kyoto bet"

13,000 school children won a bet that they can reduce their CO2
emissions
         by 7% in just 7 months -- they actually achieved a 8.3%
reduction. The
participating 25 schools achieved reductions from 0.5% to
19.4%, by
simple measures in room and water heating, insulations,
ventilation,
         lights, appliances, traffic, and recycling.

For a description of their energy-saving measures, see

Switzerland was among the first countries to sign the Kyoto
protocol.
It introduced a "CO2 law" (in force since 01-May-2000) that
schedules a
10% reduction of CO2 emissions until 2010 (compared to the 1990
level).
